L'Interdit Rouge

L’Interdit Eau de Parfum Rouge, the carnal fragrance from Givenchy. Initially conceived in 1957, L’Interdit is far from an ordinary perfume. It is much more than a simple feminine fragrance and reveals on its own a part of the rich heritage of the Givenchy house. In 2018, inviting us to look back several decades, Givenchy decided to bring this perfume back into the spotlight and modernize it.

It took L’Interdit by Givenchy only a few years to become a true pillar of feminine perfumery after its release, at the end of the 1950s. What is more, its return in 2018 also met with great success. Since then, the story has repeated itself year after year. Once again, in 2021, L’Interdit by Givenchy reappears more striking than ever, becoming a more sulfurous essence than ever: L’Interdit Eau de Parfum Rouge. Here is a breakdown of the bottle of this new perfume.

Looking back at the first L’Interdit bottle by Givenchy

L’Interdit Eau de Parfum Rouge by Givenchy is a perfume that does not shy away from its house heritage and recalls the style of its predecessor in many respects. Initially, this bottle was intended solely for the actress Audrey Hepburn, muse of Hubert de Givenchy. It was only some time later that the designer decided to extend its distribution to the general public. At first, L’Interdit by Givenchy was presented in a prestigious crystal bottle, a testament to his love for the New York actress. This luxurious case combined the rigor of a cube with the softness of rounded corners. It also symbolized the generosity of feminine curves. The whole was also topped with a heavy cap set on a transparent ring.

2007: reinterpretation of the Givenchy bottle

In 2007, this original bottle was completely redesigned. It was also at this time that the perfume was relaunched in a version quite close to the original. This was meant to bring Givenchy's greatest essences back into the spotlight, as part of the Parfums Mythiques collection. The L’Interdit bottle then became purer and more slender, entirely leaving behind its once curvaceous body, to reveal sharper angles and an ever-present modernity.

L’Interdit Eau de Parfum Rouge, a return to the past

L’Interdit Eau de Parfum Rouge marks a return to the very first version of L’Interdit by Givenchy. It, too, is based on a square shape with rounded corners. It stands out for the heavy weight of its glass, reaffirming its former refinement. Its cap, meanwhile, once again asserts itself with its imposing curve. The whole is today crowned with a small square pendant displaying the house's 4G logo. Finally, a subtle black grosgrain cotton ribbon runs along its neck. The whole comes in three different sizes, of 30, 50 and 80 ml.

The new shade of L’Interdit Eau de Parfum Rouge

For the very first time in its history, L’Interdit by Givenchy takes on a passionate red shade. Naturally, this is meant to echo its name. Red is present throughout, except at the base, which remains transparent. The house logo now appears on a silver seal. The translucent red, meanwhile, echoes the ever-present passion within this perfume. The result is a visual as carnal as the scent it contains!
