L'Interdit Rouge Ultime
L’Interdit Rouge Ultime by Givenchy: the forbidden turns to cocoa. L’Interdit has been upending the rules since 1957; with Rouge Ultime (2023), Givenchy raises audacity to its zenith. Perfumers Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo and Fanny Bal sign a spicy floral in which tuberose is wrapped in roasted cocoa, while white patchouli and smoky vetiver carve out a carnal depth. Hotter than Rouge (2021), more addictive than the classic Eau de Parfum, Rouge Ultime embodies the thrill of the forbidden pushed to its extreme.

Composition: the olfactory pyramid
Top: sparkling white bouquet
From the outset, Tunisian orange blossom and neroli release a honeyed brightness, energized by a crystalline touch of sambac jasmine. This luminous trio creates a striking contrast with the dark character announced by the base.
Heart: velvety tuberose & roasted cocoa
Indian tuberose, voluptuous and milky, intertwines with an upcycled cocoa husk: a toasted, almost dark chocolate facet that electrifies the floral bouquet. A spicy breath of white saffron amplifies the ember-like effect.
Base: white patchouli, smoky vetiver & ambroxan
The sillage unfolds a purified patchouli leaf, less earthy, paired with a smoky Haitian vetiver; ambroxan lends a persistent mineral-amber vibration. The result: more than ten hours of longevity and a red-brown trace on fabric.
Bottle: scarlet crystal with an incandescent heart
The iconic silhouette is dressed in a bleeding red lacquer, refillable via a hidden screw thread.
The square shape tied with metal ribbon is transformed: a deep red glass, almost carmine black, that hints at the fiery elixir within. The faceted cap conceals a 100% refillable system, cutting single-use glass by 35% over the product life cycle.
Advertising campaign
In the film directed by Théo Lilien, actress Rooney Mara walks through a corridor lined with red mirrors. With each step, the light pulses like a heartbeat; the electro soundtrack “Cross the Line” plays. She murmurs: “Nothing stops me now.” The press visual freezes her shadow, a fiery bottle in hand, with the handwritten slogan: “Dare the Ultimate.”
Review & verdict
L’Interdit Rouge Ultime pushes the cocoa-patchouli sensuality to an incandescent level, while preserving the line’s signature orange blossom-tuberose signature. On warm skin, the cocoa turns into smoky praline; in cool weather, the tuberose radiates a creamy brightness. Marked projection in the first hour, followed by a long-lasting carnal halo: perfect for urban nights, shadowy dinners or autumn afternoons in a black trench coat.

Rooney Mara in the Paris metro

Rooney Mara fronts the advertising campaign. A lifestyle press article places the images in the Paris metro, under the lens of photographer David Sims, and notes that the actress had already embodied the previous L'Interdit eaux de parfum; these details are not confirmed by the house.
