Where to buy

Then, over the decades, its business sector expanded considerably in order to satisfy the ever-growing expectations of an upscale clientele. Today, Hermès is certainly very famous in the world of perfumery, but it is equally so for its scarves. So, as if to create a link between these two worlds, Hermès this time chose to create a fragrance named Twilly.

The Twilly, what is it?

First of all, let us start by defining what the Twilly is. If you follow fashion news even a little, you cannot be unaware of the iconic silk squares. These scarves appeared in the mid-1940s and became key pieces in the Hermès catalog. The result of meticulous work and offering a very wide range of colors, the squares now sell for a small fortune and come in different sizes. The Twilly Hermès is one of its most modern descendants. It appeared in the early 2000s and is the brand's smallest square. It measures 86 cm long by only 5 cm wide. As a result, it allows for all kinds of boldness and has no limit other than the imagination of the woman wearing it. In fact, the Twilly can be worn just as easily around the neck as in the hair or on the wrist. It is therefore only logical that it has now made its way into the perfumery sector.

The defined and biting composition of Twilly

Twilly is a perfume we owe to the talented Christine Nagel, Hermès's official perfumer. Through this fragrance, the composer chose to address young women directly. She made this fragrance a concentrate of impertinence, at once unsettling, spicy and oriental. Twilly opens with a fresh breath of ginger. Obtained by distillation of its root, this raw material delivers here a spicy, peppery, rosy and soapy scent. It is then relayed by more femininity, highlighting tuberose absolute. This honeyed plant develops a warmer facet within this perfume. Finally, Twilly ends with a creamier, more velvety sensation. It wraps itself in the woody, milky scent of sandalwood.

The Lanterne bottle by Hermès gets a new accessory

For the occasion, Hermès also reinvented its famous Lanterne bottle. A true icon of the brand, it is a slender, refined glass column, directly inspired by the lanterns of old-fashioned horse-drawn carriages. It is fitted with a screw cap allowing splash use, or which can be replaced with a screw-on pump for spray use. Its orange color gives off a sparkling, joyful feeling from the very first glance. Finally, note that this box is accessorized with a very colorful mini Twilly tied around its neck.

Just as a little black dress is an integral part of a woman's wardrobe, the Hermès scarf has become a true fashion staple. Adopted by fashion-conscious women all over the world, it offers billions of possibilities to those who want to wear it boldly. Some collect them, others use them to enhance a chic or casual outfit. To let your imagination run free, the Hermès square comes in multiple formats. One of the smallest of them is called the Twilly. Focus on this piece of silk that has become a classic.

The evolution of the Hermès square

The Hermès square is a small square silk scarf, 90 by 90 cm. It has become, over the decades, an emblematic product of the Hermès brand. It was created in 1937 by Robert Dumas, artistic director of Hermès. The brand's first square was then named Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches. Inspired by a kind of Game of the Goose that was very popular at the time, it immediately attracted attention. Nevertheless, little by little, all kinds of different creations appeared among the Hermès squares. Nowadays, the designs are very varied and so are the styles offered by Hermès. There are Hermès squares ranging from the most classic to the most contemporary, from simple traditional designs to ultra-modern graffiti. Moreover, Hermès squares are no longer only square in shape. Indeed, over 70 years of existence, they have transformed into larger or smaller formats but also into more slender shapes such as that of the Twilly. To give an idea of the importance of Hermès squares, there are today more than 1,500 different silkscreened patterns, drawn from a palette of 75,000 shades. Each piece is archived in Hermès's carréothèque and currently about one square is sold every 30 minutes worldwide! As you will have understood, this product is a cult item, a true Hermès bestseller. The Twilly, for its part, is no exception to the rule and allows for every kind of boldness.

Focus on the Twilly Hermès

The Twilly Hermès appeared in the early 2000s. It became a real favorite among fashionistas and is a particularly trendy item that is now an absolute must-have! The Twilly is a true favorite, both versatile and multi-functional. The Twilly can thus be worn as a simple bracelet or as a belt. It can be tied in the hair or simply around the neck, letting its two ends hang nonchalantly. It thus enhances an elegant, sophisticated look as much as a more casual outfit. Generally, the Twilly has smaller patterns than the original Hermès square. It offers all kinds of possibilities and will certainly win you over with its bright colors and numerous style variations. So, what are you waiting for to treat yourself to this little gem of excellence, ideally to be worn after spraying on an Hermès perfume…

Olfastory’s review

Initially, the Twilly is a small scarf signed Hermès, ideally designed to be attached to a handbag, fixed in the hair or worn as a belt. It is the most rectangular and slender of them all, while coming in all sorts of colors. Hermès then decided to draw inspiration from it to create a fragrance. The idea is bold and few silk squares can boast of having had such a destiny. Recent, the Twilly Eau de Parfum appeared in 2017. Its success was immediate. What are the reasons? Here is our informed opinion on the subject.

The advertising

Twilly is a small scarf well known from the Hermès house. Yes, but not only that... It is also a brand new fragrant composition created by Hermès's exclusive perfumer, Christine Nagel. Through this creation, she offers here a blend of three classic perfumery materials revisited with impertinence and optimism. Twilly brings together fresh, peppery ginger, sun-kissed and mysterious tuberose, and milky, velvety sandalwood. All that remained was an advertisement to accompany this alluring little pink and colorful bottle. Focus on the visual presentation of this highly anticipated perfume.

Twilly, what are the girls doing in front of the Hermès storefront?

The advertising campaign for the Twilly perfume takes us right in front of the Parisian Hermès store. However, do not think that the house is offering a simple stroll through the streets of the capital... Its advertisement highlights several young women captivated by the bewitching power of the Twilly. Each in turn seizes this small colored ribbon. Sometimes carried away by the wind, caught at the last moment or slipping into the Hermès boutique, the Twilly leaves no one indifferent. The young women featured in this advertisement launch into a wild dance. Their bodies intertwine. Their eyes meet in an animalic way. All of them seem possessed by a higher power. The world of this advertisement is entirely dreamlike. What is more, this effect is further underscored by the jerky, electro and at times African soundtrack of this clip. Undoubtedly, with Twilly, Hermès intends to leave no one indifferent!

Twilly, or Hermès's new means of expression

In reality, the Twilly advertisement fits perfectly with the changes Hermès made a year earlier in terms of communication. More than ever, Hermès decided to put an end to its overly “proper and conventional” image. It is now a younger, more dynamic clientele that the house is addressing. The brand's latest marketing campaign had, moreover, caused quite a stir by daring to promote the famous Hermès silk squares on skateboarders! Hermès does not hesitate to shake up trends and now takes on a very contemporary look more than ever.

Contemporary dance is on the rise with the Twilly perfume!

However, note that Hermès is not the only house to have opted for contemporary dance. At present, it is a means of expression that is particularly popular in the world of perfumery, as evidenced notably by the advertisements for Kenzo World or Gabrielle Chanel. Born after the Second World War, this dance is a powerful means of expression that combines improvisation, personal expression and emotion. It explores all the body's capacities for movement and devotes itself entirely to freedom. We are here far from mere entertainment. Hermès wants to go further and gives rise here to a true fascination!
