L'Interdit Absolu

Launched in 2024, L’Interdit Absolu extends Givenchy’s L’Interdit collection, born in 1957 as a tribute to Audrey Hepburn. The house presents it as a more intense, darker version of the original white flower, unsettled by a Tobacco absolute, in a sculptural black bottle made at the Ateliers Givenchy in France.

Where to buy

L’Interdit Absolu belongs to the L’Interdit collection, relaunched by Givenchy in 2018 as an Eau de Parfum and since extended into an Eau de Toilette in 2019, an Intense in 2021, a Rouge in 2021, and a Rouge Ultime in 2023. The house positions this 2024 addition as the deepest of the family, with a sillage it describes as more masculine than that of the original fragrance.

The original composition, created in 1957 by Hubert de Givenchy, paid tribute to Audrey Hepburn. L’Interdit Absolu carries forward this legacy around the white flower that signs the collection, darkened here by a Tobacco absolute. Ambiance et Fragrance attributes the composition to the IFF trio Anne Flipo, Dominique Ropion and Fanny Bal, who also created the 2018 L’Interdit.

Givenchy positions L’Interdit Absolu for women, for men, and for anyone who asserts their individuality. The house emphasizes a warm, smoky signature that unsettles the gender codes attached to the original white flower, and subtitles the fragrance Eau de Parfum Intense.

The fragrance is manufactured in France, at the Ateliers Givenchy.

Rooney Mara, beyond the forbidden

The campaign for L’Interdit Absolu, unveiled on August 28, 2024 by the agency BETC Étoile Rouge, which has accompanied the fragrance since 2019, features American actress Rooney Mara, the face of L’Interdit since 2018. The film is directed by Joe Wright, with Philippe Le Sourd behind the camera, in an aesthetic that revisits the codes of film noir.

The soundtrack is built around the track “Pinky’s Dream”, by David Lynch, Karen O and Trentemøller. The print component is entrusted to photographer Karim Sadli, according to CB News; the campaign runs across television, digital, print and social media. On its website, Givenchy presents Rooney Mara as a figure who invites going beyond the forbidden, carried by the scent of a flower the house names Underground Flower.
