Where to buy

Note also that it exists in the form of a hair mist or a solid perfume. But did you know that its history actually dates back to the 1950s? In 2020, history repeats itself once again and Givenchy creates a new edition of this cult fragrance. Focus on L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense, and a look back at its long-standing history...

The history of L'Interdit by Givenchy

L'Interdit by Givenchy was created by Hubert de Givenchy in 1957 for his muse and beloved, the actress Audrey Hepburn. In short, this fragrance was a magnificent tribute of loyalty and tenderness. Initially designed exclusively for her, L'Interdit was offered to other women a few years later, arousing the actress's jealousy along the way. Yet it must be acknowledged that L'Interdit remains, to this day, one of the most beautiful fragrances of the last century. Intended for a refined and romantic woman, it carries in its evanescent breath a rare sincerity and a natural charm.

The new spicy composition of L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense

As its name suggests, this new fragrance, L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense, aims to be more powerful and spicy than before. Moreover, this is felt from the top notes. It opens on a fiery, lively scent of black pepper and bergamot. Thus, the freshness of citrus blends with the warmth of a powerful spice. Pear softens the whole with its fruity, juicy breath. Then, L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense develops toward a more floral heart based on narcotic tuberose and sun-kissed orange blossom. Roasted black sesame, for its part, lends its sharp and smoky aromas. Then, a woody base enriches the whole. Here, it is more precisely patchouli and vetiver. Finally, a Madagascar vanilla pod amplifies the sensual and suave side of this composition. The whole was created by three perfumers: Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo and Fanny Bal.

Givenchy's bottle dresses in a new black

In terms of visual, L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense takes on exactly the same silhouette as its predecessors. Thus, this bottle brings to mind a small round inkwell. Its neck is enhanced with a black ribbon attached to a silver plate bearing the Givenchy logo. However, the real novelty of L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense lies mainly in its new black colorway. Givenchy completely does away with the pale pink of before in favor of a dark, shimmering lacquer. Note also that the glass is directly tinted from the inside, in the manner of a nail polish. Givenchy's L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense comes in three spray bottles of different sizes: 35, 50 and 85 ml.

Olfastory’s review

Some fragrances have the gift of plunging us into a distant place, on the other side of the world, with a single breath. Other fragrances, however, have the power to take us back in time. Such is the case of L'Interdit by Givenchy, a cult essence of the house, whose beginnings date back to the 1950s. Over the decades, L'Interdit has never stopped reinventing itself. In 2018, this feminine fragrance was profoundly modernized. Since then, it has continued to release new versions of its scent. Once again, in 2020, Givenchy creates a new edition. So, what about L'Interdit Eau de Parfum Intense? What does it retain from its predecessors and how is it so different? Here is our review on the subject.
