Black Opium Floral Shock

In 1977, the perfume Opium was born, a true legend of perfumery that had nonetheless been highly controversial at first. It was then followed in 2014 by its successor named Black Opium, a true concentrate of audacity, more urban than before. This fragrance was in turn modernized in 2015, in the form of an eau de toilette refreshed with blackcurrant and electrified with mandarin.

The flowers revealed themselves less heady than before. Likewise, 2016 saw the appearance of Black Opium Nuit Blanche, a fragrance playing on the opposition of black and white. Also, it seemed that Yves Saint-Laurent wanted to write a new chapter in the history of its cult essence. The house has just announced the upcoming release, in early 2017, of its new Black Opium Floral Shock.

The floral and fruity lightness of the fragrance Black Opium Floral Shock

Black Opium Floral Shock opens with an intense sensation of freshness. Furthermore, it rests on a citrus accord composed of bergamot and lemon. Bergamot is a fruit whose greenish flesh is far too acidic and bitter to be edible. On the other hand, its peel is very famous in perfumery, renowned for its zesty, tangy, sparkling and floral scent. Here it is accompanied by the rising freshness of lemon for a most invigorating result. Freesia then completes this opening with its floral luminosity close to that of jasmine. Its sweet accents are counterbalanced by the fruity and juicy aspect of pear. Nevertheless, the floral effluvia of Black Opium Floral Shock end up taking over in its heart. It resembles a huge bouquet of white flowers enhanced with sun-kissed notes. Gardenia dominates very largely here. It brings a more assertive character to this fragrance while tinting it with green accents. Orange blossom is also very present here. It further heightens the summery and radiant aspect of this fragrance. Then, while white musks leave a clean sensation behind this fragrance, Black Opium Floral Shock ends with a more enveloping sillage. This contains a balsamic amber accord paired with the syrupy and euphoric scent of coffee. All of this required the collaboration of four great perfumers. Furthermore, Black Opium Floral Shock is the work of Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc.

A luminous makeover of the Yves Saint-Laurent bottle

While Black Opium Floral Shock is quite different from its predecessors in terms of scent, its bottle has managed to keep a family resemblance. Its former look has remained intact, and it combines voluptuous and feminine curves with a square and geometric silhouette. The whole is also still decorated with a round porthole on its front face. This seems to be a window open onto the secrets contained within this case. The glittery finish of Black Opium has also been carried over into this new version. However, it appears much less dark than before. Black Opium Floral Shock is infinitely brilliant, sparkling with light like a rough diamond.

The advertising

Get A Shock, filmed in Asia

Get A Shock, directed by Nicolas Davenel with Edie Campbell in an Asian city, ties the fragrance to the mascara line The Shock.

Titled Get A Shock, the campaign links for the first time the launch of the fragrance to that of the mascara line The Shock. Edie Campbell plays the lead role, under the direction of Nicolas Davenel, in an Asian city, as in the previous episodes of the Black Opium saga. The British model had already been the face of Black Opium visuals since the 2014 launch.

The staging rests on a game of seduction between Edie Campbell and a man, alternating between the dark world of the mascara and the bright, summery world of the fragrance. The credits mention the agencies BETC Luxe and BETC Pop, creative director Jasmine Loignon, production company Iconoclast and advertiser L'Oréal Luxe. The advertising press covered the film in January 2017.
