The Opium bottle, a container that keeps reinventing itself
Black Opium Floral Shock is a very recent fragrance and yet one with a long history. This history is reflected in each of its components, including its bottle. Indeed, Black Opium Floral Shock carries over many elements from the very first version of Opium from 1977. As a bit of background, the design of this legendary bottle was inspired by an Inrō, a precious case once used by warriors of the Far East. Yves Saint-Laurent had shown profound audacity in developing its visual. Opium was a sort of ultra-contemporary interpretation of a traditional object. What is more, it never failed to take us on a journey. Made of a nylon plastic shell, it was lacquered in a red color, a shade highly prized in China. At its heart, a transparent window let us glimpse an amber color, a sort of window open onto a distant and exotic world. The whole was also connected to a cap by a braided black cord. Through it, Yves Saint-Laurent wanted to evoke the intimate bond uniting a woman and her fragrance. So, while Opium still seems very current despite its 40 years, it has been revisited on several occasions. It was readapted with the creation of Belle d'Opium in 2010, Black Opium in 2014, Black Opium Eau de Toilette in 2015, Black Opium Nuit Blanche in 2016 and now Black Opium Floral Shock in 2017.
The design of the latest Black Opium Floral Shock
After several highly successful makeovers of the Opium design, Black Opium Floral Shock has once again managed to reinvent itself. Of course, its bottle still looks strangely familiar. Its former look has remained intact. Thus, it perfectly combines the square shape of its predecessors with very feminine curves. Likewise, its porthole is still present at its center. On the other hand, seven round openings now reveal a more feminine juice tinted in soft pink. Black Opium Floral Shock also carries over the glittery surface of Black Opium. However, it has traded its matte black color for something more luminous. It is a bit as if the color of the dark night had suddenly lit up. Black Opium Floral Shock is coated in white and pale pink glitter for a most poetic result. Black Opium Floral Shock seems dusted with stardust. It seems to ignite to reveal the best of its personality.
