Where to buy

Today, as if to accompany his creations, he chose to craft a perfume that is at once carnal, gourmand and scandalously striking. Focus on Scandal, the new feminine perfume from the house of Jean Paul Gaultier.

Gourmand indulgence, an inexhaustible source of pleasure for Jean-Paul Gaultier

Since the 1990s, gourmand notes have carved out a prime place in women's perfumery. Women have embraced them enthusiastically, and it is clearly this trend that Jean-Paul Gaultier decided to ride for the creation of his new perfume. Nevertheless, let us not forget that the designer never takes the easy route and always strives to transform fashion with exuberance and boldness. It is precisely in this spirit that he chose to rework the gourmand genre here. Scandal is a sweet, chypre, honeyed perfume that places honey at the center of its composition. This gives it a highly syrupy and thoroughly addictive quality. Gardenia, meanwhile, reinforces the femininity of the whole. This small white flower, reserved exclusively for high-end perfumery, heightens the summery feel of this new perfume. However, it shifts toward greater depth in its base. Scandal is then shaped by patchouli, an earthy ingredient that enhances the elegance of this composition.

Scandal, or the story of a head-turning bottle

Yet beyond this new formula, the Scandal perfume would be nothing without its sumptuous bottle. It is both elegant and highly offbeat. It immediately draws us into the outlandish world of Jean-Paul Gaultier, which is by no means unwelcome! Undoubtedly, Scandal has everything it takes to become one of the great perfumes of our era. It displays a carefully considered visual that plays on contrasts and oppositions. Its transparent base is thus paired with a fully opaque cap. The thick glass of its base conveys authenticity. The chrome-plated metal at its top, meanwhile, leans toward greater modernity. Yet the entire sculpture echoes an overflowing femininity. Its glass reveals a lovely soft pink juice, the emblematic color of femininity. Its cap, for its part, is crowned with two feminine legs, tumbling backward, as if a woman had suddenly fallen into the Jean-Paul Gaultier bottle! So, what are you waiting for to do the same and immerse yourself in this scandalously intoxicating new perfume?

Olfastory’s review

The world of perfumery and that of Haute Couture both belong to the realm of luxury. As such, these are highly compartmentalized universes in which many abide by the dictates of society and marketing. Yet certain designers stand out as small-scale rebels and never fail to surprise. Among them, Jean-Paul Gaultier is regarded as one of the most atypical figures of his generation. Each of his creations is therefore highly anticipated. The house has now just presented a new perfume named Scandal. So does this new fragrance truly live up to its name? Is it as atypical as its bottle suggests?

The advertising

Jean-Paul Gaultier is an unconventional designer. He has never hesitated to spark astonishment, creating skirts for men or conical bras for Madonna. Scandal has thus always been part of his career. So, as if to pay tribute to it, he this time chose to invite it into the heart of his perfume line. The name of his new perfume is none other than Scandal, and it seemed almost inevitable. Fitted with a striking bottle crowned with two feminine legs, all it needed was an advertisement to support its launch. Well, that has now been done, with plenty of humor, surprise and eroticism as always.

Politics at the heart of the new Scandal perfume

Jean-Paul Gaultier is a genuinely bold figure, as everyone is now well aware. Nevertheless, it must be said that he set the bar particularly high with his new advertisement for the Scandal perfume! It blends current political events with Jean-Paul Gaultier's characteristic exuberance. The Scandal advertisement first unfolds outside a Parisian nightclub. Two swinging doors open slightly to reveal a lovely young blonde woman, dressed in a particularly sexy way. She appears to be entirely free, fully aware of her powers of seduction. In fact, she does not hesitate to use them on the men around her! She then gets into a sedan and takes the opportunity to change during the ride. The vehicle then enters the grounds of the Élysée Palace and stops right in front of the steps. The door opens slightly and the lovely blonde appears in a satin suit, revealing seamed stockings beneath. The young woman steps out and journalists call out to her: “Madam Minister”! The scenario is absolutely offbeat, worthy of all of Jean-Paul Gaultier's exuberance. To produce such an advertisement the day after a presidential election truly took nerve! Jean-Paul Gaultier explains his choice in these terms: today's girl fell into scandal from an early age. [...] Throughout my childhood, he says, I saw women who were in charge. My mother controlled everything at home, my grandmother did too, only it was not openly acknowledged given their standing in society; appearances had to be kept up. Now, difference, excess and duality are accepted out in the open. This is precisely what is found in Jean-Paul Gaultier's new advertisement for Scandal.

Vanessa Axente, Jean-Paul Gaultier's new face of the campaign

It should also be noted that Jean-Paul Gaultier secured a prestigious face of the campaign for his new advertisement. Indeed, the minister in question is portrayed by the alluring Hungarian model Vanessa Axente. An emblematic figure in fashion today, she has worked with all the greatest design houses and currently ranks among the 50 most famous models in the world. Here, she takes on a role far more offbeat than usual. It suits her perfectly, and only Vanessa Axente seemed capable of carrying off such ambiguity.
