Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, or modernity through simplicity and Guerlain elegance

With the Aqua Allegoria Eaux Fraîches collection launched in 1999, the house of Guerlain reconnects with its prestigious past as a meticulous selector of choice fragrant raw materials. Of course, Guerlain, whatever its fragrances, is renowned for its strong taste for unique and precious scents. But how can one or two rare raw materials be highlighted in a fragrance when it is composed of so many wonders? The solution is to create a fragrance built solely around that precious raw material, just as grapefruit conducts the lovely summer symphony of Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune.

For Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, as with all the new Eaux Fraîches in this sublime collection, there would be no ambassador, no major filmed advertising campaign. A visual would showcase the lovely Spanish fragrance by presenting a grapefruit as aesthetic and transparent as clear water. Why look for a complex communication formula when the fragrance speaks for itself? All the more so since the name, built around the wordplay between Pamplona, the Spanish city, and pamplemousse, grapefruit, is quite explicit in itself.

Pamplelune is a sparkling and sensual Eau de Toilette, a breath of gaiety over a radiant, tangy grapefruit.

Spain, grapefruit and solar notes for Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune

The lovely Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune is part of the very first 1999 vintage of the Aqua Allegoria collection. In order to pay tribute to the beauty of the fragrant elements of this new Aqua Allegoria range, Guerlain called on sculptor Robert Granai to create a bottle that was both innovative and symbolic of the house of Guerlain. The artist's work thus offers, for Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, a work of art built around the golden cage, symbolizing the famous mythical bees, set on a bottle shaped like the house's very first one.

The meticulous work on the composition of Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune was carried out by Mathilde Laurent, accompanied of course by Jean-Paul Guerlain, who summed up the intended power of this fragrance in a single sentence: in the early morning, the shutters open, the sun rises and warms up. A view over a citrus orchard. Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune

Thus the top notes are zested with carefully chosen citrus fruits in order to create a lively, fragrant accord built around grapefruit of course, but also lemon, bergamot and petitgrain. The lovely floral, sun-kissed neroli brings a warm, powerful heart to this water while tinting it with a lovely fruity note of blackcurrant. Then patchouli and vanilla, true to the deep sillage of Guerlain fragrances, add a swirl to this fresh blend, cradling it in sensuality.

If, for Jean-Paul Guerlain, grapefruit (…) evokes gourmand desire, the longing for the fruit's flesh, brimming with sunshine, sparkling with life and gaiety, Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune transports us into the fragrant, warm summers of the beautiful Spanish city. Fresh, sweet grapefruit sways in the air and transforms on skin as the notes of this joyful symphony unfold...

The advertising

The Aqua Allegoria fragrances are among Guerlain's most famous fragrance collections. Each of these fragrances is conceived as a luminous, sparkling interpretation of a garden from a particular area of the globe. From India to Réunion Island, by way of Venezuela or California, each fragrance projects us to a very particular place. All are also inspired by the Eaux de Cologne of the past. Highly refreshing, they come in a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Bee Bottle, created in 1853 for the Eau de Cologne Impériale. Here, Guerlain chooses to bring them back into the spotlight in a new advertisement. Set to the upbeat track Whishing Girl by Lola Marsh, the Aqua Allegoria bottles emerge from clear, delightfully fragrant water. More than ever, this new campaign is an invitation to rediscover these cult fragrances…

Pamplelune, a breath from Spain

Particularly sun-kissed, Guerlain's Pamplelune owes its existence to Mathilde Laurent. A cocktail of good spirits, it first pairs California grapefruit with Italian bergamot. Its heart, meanwhile, relies on neroli and petitgrain. Vanilla from Réunion wraps the whole in its sensual breath, while Pamplelune gains character through the presence of Indonesian patchouli.
