Eaux de Cologne, fragrances omnipresent throughout Guerlain's history

It was in 1853 that Guerlain's history with Eaux de Cologne began. Indeed, at that time, these constituted the most fashionable fragrance. Eau de Cologne was particularly popular among crowned heads, and mastering its making was essential for anyone hoping to rank among the greatest perfumers of the time. Guerlain then created one of the greatest fragrances of this type in history: Eau de Cologne Impériale. It was intended for Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. She fell literally under the spell of this particularly balanced fragrance, full of freshness. From then on, she made Guerlain her official perfumer. This greatly contributed to establishing the house's reputation, so much so that the greatest figures of the time flocked to Guerlain's doors. As an example, the house also supplied Elisabeth of Austria, better known as Sissi, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elisabeth of Spain. Since that day, Guerlain has viewed Eau de Cologne as a sort of good-luck charm it cannot bring itself to remove from its shelves. Thus, Guerlain has chosen to carry on this tradition and to create new Colognes that are ever fresher and more contemporary. This is how La Cuvée Secrète came about.

The Fresh character of La Cuvée Secrète

As one might expect, La Cuvée Secrète pays tribute to Guerlain's history. It appears as a secret passed down from generation to generation. Thus, it emanates from an ancestral know-how, a precise dosage, and an unprecedented harmony of raw materials. La Cuvée Secrète is built around three major ingredients. It notably contains bergamot, a fruit resulting from the cross between the lemon tree and the bitter orange tree. Lavender, for its part, immerses us here in a very Provençal environment. Its aromatic notes are paired with the sun-kissed brightness of petitgrain, a fruit derived from orange blossom. Guerlain then offers two different ways to use this product. La Cuvée Secrète can be applied generously to the skin, in the manner of the Eaux de Cologne of old. Its invigorating freshness invites calm and relaxation. Similarly, La Cuvée Secrète can also scent bathwater. To do so, one simply needs to dilute a few drops into the bath. This alone promises to fill one with happiness while toning the skin.
