Jean-Paul Guerlain and Mathilde Laurent join forces to create Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune Guerlain
Born in 1937 in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, Jean-Paul Guerlain represents the 4th generation of perfumers bearing the Guerlain name. Jean-Paul Guerlain is regarded as an innovator and a highly talented perfumer. Indeed, he is able to recognize 3,000 different olfactory nuances. Jean-Paul Guerlain is behind such great olfactory successes as Jardins de Bagatelle and Samsara. After a scientific DEUG degree, Mathilde Laurent joined the Versailles perfumery school, ISIPCA. Mathilde Laurent now works within Cartier fragrances and states that she creates the fragrances, but also takes part in shaping their story, in choosing the name, in developing the packaging and in training the sales advisors. Olfactory expertise does not stop at the fragrance itself. Mathilde Laurent is behind magnificent fragrances such as Cartier's La Panthère and Envol.
Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, the beauty of Spain in a bottle
First, it should be noted that Pamplelune is a play on words. It is in fact a blend of the word Pampelune (Pamplona) and the word pamplemousse (grapefruit). Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune thus takes flight on the freshness of grapefruit and Italian bergamot. Native to Asia, grapefruit was cultivated in Japan 4,000 years ago. Its peel is thick and soft and its diameter can reach 30 cm. Grapefruit was imported to the Antilles as early as the 16th century. In France, grapefruit had its heyday starting in 1930, as it became part of dietary regimens. In perfumery, grapefruit essence is obtained by cold expression of the fruit's peel. It gives off tangy, bitter and fresh tonalities. Then, the heart of Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune is charged with luminosity thanks to the presence of neroli, paired with petitgrain and blackcurrant.
The name neroli is given to the essence obtained from the distillation of bitter orange blossoms. Native to China, the bitter orange tree has been cultivated since the 12th century. In the language of flowers, neroli symbolizes virginity. Neroli essential oil is widely used for its relaxing and uplifting properties. In perfumery, neroli offers very luminous, floral, sweet and vanillic scents. Finally, the base of Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune leaves a delicately sensual sillage thanks to the presence of vanilla and patchouli.
