La Panthère Eau de Parfum

Thanks to unparalleled expertise and extreme refinement, Cartier has managed to stay in the race against other great houses such as Dior, Rolex or Boucheron. In keeping with the house's spirit, Cartier's perfumes are precious and unique. Cartier's first fragrance, in 1987, was already named La Panthère. It is therefore a reinterpretation that Cartier offered in 2014.

La Panthère according to Cartier

To create La Panthère, Cartier drew on the house's own heritage, on the brand's earliest origins. In fact, the panther is none other than Jeanne Toussaint, a Parisian cocotte who became the mistress of Louis Cartier. Jeanne was nicknamed La Panthère, because her character was fierce and unyielding… But not only that! Director of the high jewelry department, Jeanne Toussaint is behind one of the most magical creations: La Panthère. Set on a 152.35-carat cabochon sapphire, covered with a diamond pavé speckled with calibrated sapphires, the animal is imbued with ferocity and sensuality. The first panther would be bought by the Duchess of Windsor… Since then, the feline has become the beloved emblem of the house of Cartier. A deeply sentimental emblem.

The floral-feral notes of La Panthère

It was perfumer Mathilde Laurent who took on the heavy task of imagining the new Panthère. To do so, she drew inspiration from a philosophical quotation stating that of all animals, the panther is the only one that naturally smells good. Through floral notes, Mathilde Laurent then sought to bring out the feline side dormant in every woman. La Panthère is built around gardenia. The opening of the composition is a green fruity blend in the form of a styrallyl acetate molecule, offering nuances of rhubarb, strawberry, apricot and dried fruits. The heart is entirely dominated by the presence of gardenia. Finally, the base turns chypre thanks to musk ketone and oakmoss, which defines the panther's character. As for the bottle, it evokes a 3D engraving. It appears to have been laser-sculpted. Its geometric silhouette actually represents the head of a panther. The latter bears a square, angular jaw. The panther is topped with a metal headpiece, as though it were its crown. Imposing, the bottle takes on the entire shape of the flask, and one may find oneself face to face with the feline...

When beautiful gardenia meets the sensuality of musks… La Panthère, a symbol dear to the house of Cartier, is a floral-feline composition. Of course, La Panthère cannot help but recall Jeanne Toussaint, mistress and muse of Louis Cartier. Everything here is magical, down to the bottle that resembles a panther's head. The Cartier woman is a free, mysterious and passionate woman, just like the feline.
