For several years now, Guerlain has fascinated us with fragrant creations that are always imbued with nostalgia while remaining fully forward-looking. The Aqua Allegoria fragrances are precisely conceived this way. They are like Eaux de Cologne of the past, endowed with intense freshness, while fully fitting into current trends. Designed by drawing inspiration from a particular place, these fragrances have the gift of transporting us to the other side of the world in just a few seconds. Pamplelune, for its part, is a sun-kissed interpretation of Spain and the city of Pamplona. A veritable garden suspended between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, it seems to capture all the light of the sun. But what about the bottle containing this fragrance?
Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, a bottle inspired by Guerlain's Bee Bottle
Like many of Guerlain's creations, Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune nods to the house's prestigious history. Thus, its bottle draws inspiration from one of its most beautiful flacons. It all began in 1853, when Guerlain decided to collaborate with the Pochet du Courval glassworks to design a prestigious bottle intended for Empress Eugénie. Guerlain thus presented her with its Eau de Cologne Impériale. It was thanks to this that Guerlain was crowned official perfumer to Her Majesty. At the time, the Bee Bottle consisted of a glass cylinder blown at 450° before being covered in fine gold. It was also sculpted with numerous bees in relief as well as festoons. The whole was topped with a dome inspired by the Vendôme column, located just a few meters from the Guerlain boutique, then situated at 12 rue de la Paix, in Paris. Nearly 170 years later, Guerlain's Bee Bottle remains one of the brand's most beautiful pieces. It is therefore quite fitting that the fragrance Pamplelune pays tribute to it.
The transformation of the Bee Bottle for the fragrance Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune
For the fragrance Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, many elements of the previous Guerlain Bee Bottle have been retained. However, it has been modernized while being made accessible to the general public. Thus, the opaque fine gold lacquer has disappeared in favor of transparent glass. The golden color now shows through in a finely chiseled dome, letting light pass through. The transparent glass, meanwhile, lets us glimpse a delightfully golden juice, almost honeyed and syrupy. Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune shines with a thousand lights and radiates a contagious energy. It is topped with a small golden ball, on which a bee is finely engraved. This element thus echoes the previous Bee Bottle. The cylindrical shape topped with a dome has been preserved. A white label bearing its name and that of Guerlain is also affixed to its front face. Unlike most fragrances, Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune is available in only one size. It comes in a 125 ml spray bottle.
