Many of Aimé Guerlain's creations were pure, fresh, unisex waters, as tradition dictated. Until the Jicky revolution... From Jicky was also born, in 1894, this Eau de Cologne du Coq, not quite like the others!

Hidden behind Jicky, Aimé Guerlain dares to create Eau de Cologne du Coq...

After a success as resounding as Eau de Cologne Impériale, how could Aimé Guerlain not carry on the family's perfumed tradition? So the brilliant pupil Aimé Guerlain continued the efforts already underway to create light waters intended for crowned heads, evening events or society gatherings... Until the moment Aimé took over the direction of the perfumery from his father, Pierre-François-Pascal, and created the very first modern perfume in history: Jicky.

With Jicky, gone were natural fresh waters, replaced by pictures, stories depicted in perfume. This did not stop Aimé from favoring the richness of natural raw materials... So naturally, when Aimé Guerlain chose to create an Eau de Cologne in tribute to the actor of Cyrano de Bergerac, Benoît-Constant Coquelin, it could not be ordinary. For Eau de Cologne du Coq, despite its fresh, citrus appearance, is also a fine, wild creature...

Eau de Cologne du Coq, or animalic freshness...

The soft and delicate Eau de Cologne du Coq is currently presented in the legendary bottle of Eau de Cologne Impériale, the “bee” bottle created by the glassmaker Pochet & du Courval in 1853 at the request of Pierre-François-Pascal, the father of the perfumer Aimé Guerlain. Of course, the label of the Eau de Cologne du Coq bottle plays with patriotic and imperial symbols to recall the purely French origin of the composition.

As the house of Guerlain likes to state today, Eau de Cologne du Coq illustrates the freshness, both delicate and tangy, of a spring morning. Thus the notes of orange, bergamot and lemon send their zesty power toward the delicate and exotic neroli flower to offer fresh, sparkling top notes.

Then the heart of this Eau de Cologne du Coq turns toward patchouli, aromatic lavender and jasmine to enhance this Cologne with elegant, choice floral raw materials. Finally, we have the pleasure of discovering a most original animalic base for an Eau de Cologne. This reminds us that while Aimé Guerlain is a worthy Guerlain descendant of the Eau Impériale, he is nonetheless also the creator of Jicky and its sensual, deep animalic notes.

Clearly, it was not Aimé Guerlain's first perfumes that endured in the history and heritage of the house of Guerlain. It was of course the brilliant Jicky and this Eau de Cologne du Coq, along with all the creations that followed, that marked the admirable creative work of this ultramodern and highly visionary perfumer.
