Very Irrésistible Eau de Toilette

Very Irrésistible Eau de Toilette launched Givenchy’s floral aromatic line in 2003. Dominique Ropion, Carlos Benaïm and Sophie Labbé paired a bouquet of five roses with star anise in it. The house now describes it with blackcurrant bud, violet leaf and verbena at the top, roses and star anise at the heart, in a faceted bottle lacquered in pink.

Givenchy launched Very Irrésistible in 2003, as an Eau de Toilette. The house made it a tribute to Audrey Hepburn, Hubert de Givenchy’s muse, and presents it as the first feminine floral aromatic: an armful of roses lifted by a star anise accord.

Three perfumers signed the formula: Dominique Ropion, Carlos Benaïm and Sophie Labbé. The bouquet brings together five roses, centifolia, peony rose, fantasia, emotion and passion, lifted by star anise and a verbena leaf.

Actress Liv Tyler fronted the launch. She remained the face of the line in 2005, when Givenchy named a rose after her in the Eau de Parfum, released as Very Irrésistible Sensual, and launched a men’s Very Irrésistible.

The house’s current narrative

Givenchy now presents the Eau de Toilette as an explosion of roses, opened by the bright tartness of a blackcurrant bud and crossed by the unexpected whimsy of star anise. The house calls it an icon since its creation in 2003 and wants it more impertinent than ever.

What critics say

No review has been devoted to it. Victoria Frolova, on Bois de Jasmin, mentions it in 2005 at the start of her review of the men’s fragrance: on her skin, the feminine version turns into something rather sharp.

Liv Tyler by Mario Testino, 2003

Actress Liv Tyler fronts the 2003 launch in a black-and-white campaign photographed by Mario Testino.

Givenchy entrusted the image of the 2003 launch to actress Liv Tyler, photographed in black and white by Mario Testino. She lends her face to a fragrance the house dedicates to Audrey Hepburn, its historic muse.

Liv Tyler took up the role again in 2005 for the Eau de Parfum Very Irrésistible Sensual and the line’s men’s fragrance. Mario Testino again signed these black-and-white images, which Givenchy presents as close to those of the first campaign.
