Always driven by the same spirit of innovation and offbeat thinking, Courrèges introduced Courrèges in Blue in 1983. Courrèges in Blue is now a classic among atypical fragrances, one that made its way to a re-release loudly demanded by its fans in 2014.

Courrèges in Blue, the most singular of Courrèges perfumes

Courrèges is above all the symbol of a fashion house that managed to break away from all the codes of haute couture to offer entirely original lines that forever upended stylistic trends. Quite deliberately, Courrèges perfumes followed the same line of “non-conformity”, breaking the codes of classic perfumery just as the Courrèges mini-skirt sparked debate.

Courrèges in Blue has nothing to envy in the originality of these illustrious predecessors. Released in 1983, Courrèges in Blue set itself completely apart from the perfumes of the same era. While “poisons” and other heady, toxic venoms were making their appearance in perfumery, Courrèges in Blue instead offered aromatic scents that were both powerful and light, standing out in this rather heady sphere.

Bringing lavender back into fashion in a cocktail of spices and green freshness, Courrèges in Blue speaks to “women of character” in search of “an ideal of feminine purity”. In fact, this lovely Courrèges in Blue was so requested by its devotees that it made a highly noted comeback in 2014.

Lavender, ginger and patchouli for an aquatic floral with an original Empreinte

Courrèges in Blue was first housed in an amphora-shaped bottle very different from the brand's other perfumes. However, upon its second birth in 2014, it was decided to finally return to the emblematic Courrèges bottle, adorning it with a bright, sparkling blue, just as vivid as its fragrance. The very first composition of Courrèges in Blue was created by Edouard Fléchier, while the second, from 2014, was created by Nadège Le Garlantezec.

Courrèges in Blue opens with sparkling top notes of mandarin and galbanum, mingling with the unsettling, distinctly Asian scent of ginger. Then the floral heart bursts onto the senses in a Provençal, aromatic spray of lavender, magnified for the occasion of its rebirth thanks to the exceptional ethical Lavande Or Pur, known as the “Blue Gold of Provence”. Finally, as befits the signature of a Courrèges perfume, patchouli, sandalwood and musk lend their roundness and deep sensuality to the sillage of this fragrance of character.

While the reformulation of major perfumes is not always welcome, as it can distort the original scents, it seems that the second birth of Courrèges in Blue has been met with at least as much acclaim as its original version. A great perfume of the 1980s, Courrèges in Blue, through its originality and exceptional raw materials, once again managed to assert its tall, fresh and offbeat stature within the sweet, gourmand perfumery world of the 2010s.
