Libre was released in August 2019, a new feminine pillar for Yves Saint Laurent after several years spent reinterpreting its great classics. Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm signed the composition. The house places it under the sign of freedom, a value it owes to its founder.

The founder’s legacy

The house links Libre to the daring of Yves Saint Laurent, who dressed women in trouser suits and safari jackets. The fragrance transposes that gesture by placing lavender, long reserved for men’s fragrances, at the center of a feminine composition.

Yves Saint Laurent defines Libre as a floral lavender, born of the tension between Moroccan orange blossom, sensual and burning, and a daring French lavender reinvented for women.

Dua Lipa, by Nabil Elderkin

Dua Lipa embodies Libre in a film by Nabil Elderkin shot partly at the Grand Canyon, in which she sings a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “I’m Free.”

For the 2019 launch, Yves Saint Laurent chose the singer Dua Lipa as its face. The house presents her as an artist committed to the fight for freedom and as an icon of her generation.

The film was directed by Nabil Elderkin and shot partly at the Grand Canyon. In it, Dua Lipa declares “don’t be afraid of your freedom” and sings a cover of “I’m Free,” a Rolling Stones song.
