Manifesto is the feminine eau de parfum that Anne Flipo and Loc Dong composed in 2012 for Yves Saint Laurent, launched in September with Jessica Chastain as the face of the campaign and a film by Nicolas Winding Refn. A woody floral oriental for the house: jasmine, white flowers, lily of the valley and blackcurrant, over a base of vanilla, tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood. Jeanne Doré finds it the least disappointing launch from the house in some time.

Where to buy

Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, through Stephan Bezy as quoted by WWD and The Hollywood Reporter, presents Manifesto as a woody floral oriental and Jessica Chastain as a Saint Laurent woman, luminosity, charm, grace and boldness. On September 11, 2012 the launch takes over the front page of Libération, tinted in the purple of the bottle, reports Ozap.

A back-to-school season under the sign of painting

Chastain, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, compares the fragrance to a painting: everyone has their own reaction to it, their own layers, their own ideas. In the film, she plays an artist; in the visual, her hands stream with purple paint like two elegant gloves. The spot airs on television on September 11, 2012.

What the critics of the time said

Jeanne Doré, on Auparfum, considers Manifesto in September 2012 the least disappointing Saint Laurent launch in some time: a sun-kissed, gourmand floral oriental, classic, that could have been just another patchouli fragrance. The house no longer sells it; L'Élixir, Le Parfum and L'Éclat have their own pages.

Olfastory’s review

Doré (Auparfum) sees it as the least disappointing Saint Laurent launch in a long time: a sun-kissed, gourmand floral oriental, classic, with a milky sillage close to shower gel.

Jessica Chastain by Winding Refn

One-minute film by Nicolas Winding Refn, Jessica Chastain as an artist at an auction, set to Just Because I Do by Selah Sue, aired on 09/11/2012.

The one-minute film, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, winner of the Best Director award at Cannes for Drive, takes place partly at an auction, reports Ozap: Jessica Chastain, silent, gets the last word. Aired on September 11, 2012 during prime time on Canal+, TF1 and M6, it circulates online.

La Réclame identifies the music, Just Because I Do by Selah Sue, and an ambassador who puts body and soul into painting; Stratégies logs the campaign for September 2012, with Winding Refn directing. Purepeople quotes the Danish director, who had directed Blake Lively for Gucci: a perfect match, he says of Chastain.
