Where to buy

Today, however, the house of Nina Ricci wished to refocus on the origins of this fragrance. The brand has just given birth to a brand new fragrance in the range, named Nina Rouge. Be warned: this new essence is a concentrate of gourmand character that you will not be able to resist!

The return of the iconic Nina Ricci apple

Like many Nina Ricci fragrances, Nina Rouge comes in an apple-shaped bottle. After all, what could be more evocative of temptation than this fruit? This time, its former pink color has disappeared in favor of a vivid red. Its lacquer finish is absolutely dazzling, only fueling women's passion for this essence. As a reminder, the apple made its very first appearance at Nina Ricci in 1952, with the creation of the fragrance Fille d'Eve. Today, a novelty takes hold of its bottle: it appears to have been bitten into on its front face, as if women could not resist its temptation! A small fabric ribbon is also tied around its neck, discreetly bearing the initials of Nina Ricci.

The excessively gourmand scent of Nina Rouge

Like the very first Nina, the new Nina Rouge owes its existence to perfumer Olivier Cresp. Here, the creator clearly chose to ride the trend of sweet fragrances. He crafted an essence that is excessively, predominantly and radically gourmand. To achieve this, he first drew on the scent of fruits. Nina Rouge opens on a refreshing and tangy accord of raspberry and lemon. The result is a juicy, lively and airy breath. Then, the heart of Nina Rouge becomes more floral. It is enriched with spicy ginger flower, while being softened by more velvety gardenia. Gradually, the gourmand character takes over. Nina Rouge ends with a base of vanilla and crisp caramel. These two ingredients give rise to the very sweet signature of this irresistible juice.

Estella Boersma, face of the new Nina Rouge

Of course, this new olfactory release already comes with an advertisement. On screen, Nina Rouge is embodied by model Estella Boersma, already present in Les Belles de Nina, alongside Barbara Palvin (Bella) and Sonia Ben Ammar (Luna). The television campaign for the Nina Rouge fragrance is set to the cheerful song Comic Strip by Serge Gainsbourg. The world is less magical and dreamlike than before. On the other hand, the light and childlike spirit of this fragrance is heightened. So, how about rediscovering the charms of childhood through Nina Rouge?

Olfastory’s review

The Nina fragrance dresses in red... In 2006, the house of Nina Ricci launched its Nina fragrance, which has since become a true icon of women's perfumery. This fresh heroine, a kind of modern-day fairy, immersed us in her romantic world, worthy of an enchanting dream. This time, to our great delight, Nina reinvents herself once again and becomes Nina Rouge. It must be said that this is not Nina Ricci's first attempt at this... This essence has already had plenty of opportunity to change its appearance, becoming in turn Pretty Nina, Nina L'Elixir, Les Gourmandises de Nina, Les Délices de Nina, La Tentation de Nina, and even Les Monstres de Nina. So how does the house manage to reinvent itself? Is the new Nina Rouge worthy of its predecessors? Here is our review!

The advertising

The colorful and sparkling advertisement for Nina Rouge

Since its first steps in perfumery in the 1940s with Cœur Joie and the now cult L'Air du Temps, the house of Nina Ricci has embodied radiant and sparkling femininity. This vision of women has continually inspired the house's creations, and the trio of Les Belles de Nina Ricci reminds us of this a little more with its three star fragrances Nina, Luna and Bella. In 2019, it is the mischievous fairy Nina who reinvents herself as Nina Rouge, this time transforming into a modern princess who plays with life in a campaign that is colorful to the extreme.

The lovely Nina Rouge at the center of every daring move

The screen is bathed in red to introduce the new Nina woman. Like a modern-day little red riding hood, she arrives carrying an enormous red apple in her arms! Then the camera plays tricks on us and the beauty is multiplied to offer us a few stylistic exercises with her apple of giant proportions. Shut inside a photo booth, then topped with a lovely red bowler hat, the young Nina Rouge has fun.

As if for one last game with her audience, she hides behind her candy apple to surprise us once more.

When Nina Rouge offers a world more modern than ever

What surprises us about this 2019 campaign for Nina Rouge is its world, which ultimately appears quite far removed from the latest campaigns filmed for Les Belles de Nina, such as the one from 2018 filmed by director Eugenio Recuenco. Because we have known Nina since 2006, and until now she had rather presented herself as a sweet, delicate, discreet and feminine princess; here, of course, she retains these fine qualities but seems to become, for Nina Rouge, much bolder than she was alongside her companions Luna and Bella.

So at first glance, with Nina Rouge, it would seem that the house of Nina Ricci abandons the magical world for a younger, more sparkling one. Yet the princess Nina Rouge is not as different as the image she conveyed in the advertisements for Les Belles; in fact, she moves to the same song by Serge Gainsbourg, Comic Strip, with its sweet onomatopoeia, at once rhythmic and cheerful.

Estella Boersma, the sparkling face of Nina Rouge

Since the lovely campaign filmed in 2018 for Les Belles, we have discovered three lovely new faces, namely Sonia Ben Ammar for Luna, Barbara Palvin for Bella and Estella Boersma for Nina.

In this 2019 campaign for Nina Rouge, it seemed only logical to find the lovely Dutch blonde Estella Boersma once again, the princess Nina. However, she sets aside her usual sweetness to highlight her playfulness and freshness, which, under multiple camera angles and expressions, come through perfectly naturally.

It would also seem that, from a personal standpoint, this top model closely resembles the princess Nina, as this queen of the runway, who enjoys being seen, also loves artistic introspection, particularly drawing, which she has practiced since a very young age.

Nina Rouge and its gourmand character signed by Olivier Cresp

It is once again perfumer Olivier Cresp who brought this lovely gourmand fragrance named Nina Rouge to life. Not surprising, since he is behind the very first gourmand fragrance in history, Angel by Thierry Mugler in 1992.

And it is true that Nina Rouge does not beat around the bush in presenting itself as a candy apple! Nina Rouge opens on sweet and voluptuous notes of raspberry accompanied, for the occasion, by an invigorating touch of citron. At the heart, opposites meet between a sharp note of ginger and a soft and highly feminine breeze of gardenia. Finally, bourbon vanilla and caramel close this Nina Rouge in sweet and deeply sensual depths.

Nina Rouge, from the fairy tale to a thoroughly modern Little Red Riding Hood

From the very first images of the campaigns for Les Belles, we were captivated by the bold pairing of the usual fairy tale codes with modern, sparkling personalities. This contrast was indeed the means by which Nina Ricci made us dream with princesses 2.0.

So today Nina Rouge sets aside its totem animal and its fairy-tale sisters, yet it gains in spontaneity while continuing to play with a retro register just as offbeat as that of the fairy tale.

Modern princesses between enchantment and fantasy

The house of Nina Ricci has always sought to have its fragrances embody joie de vivre as well as modernity. All the women who have embodied the image of Nina Ricci have each, in turn, been able to blend this mix of boldness and tenderness, of the classic and the offbeat. Nina Rouge is thus fully in keeping with these feminine contrasts that the house of Nina Ricci delights in showcasing with boundless advertising creativity.
