So Scandal !

A new Scandal at the heart of the house Jean-Paul Gaultier. Who better than Jean-Paul Gaultier to surprise the public, land where least expected and craft Haute Couture creations each more daring than the last? It is thus in perfect keeping with this approach that he crafted the feminine fragrance Scandal, on a fine day in 2017.

Jean-Paul Gaultier has always enjoyed having fun in his creations, never hesitating to go beyond established codes and to play with appearances. Recall that in 1985, he crafted skirts for men, quickly followed by the astonishing corset with conical breasts worn by Madonna, in 1990. Jean-Paul Gaultier delights in causing a scandal and has even been playing with the idea for some years now in a fragrance collection. In 2020, his olfactory range grows and reveals the new So Scandal !. So, what is so surprising about it this time? Here is our take on the subject!

Olfastory’s review

The image of an exuberant Parisian woman in a fragrance

The fragrance So Scandal ! draws inspiration from the great feminine icons who fascinate Jean-Paul Gaultier, such as Rossy de Palma, Amanda Lear, Beth Ditto, Dita von Teese and Madonna. It is the symbol of a Parisian woman who loves to be noticed and to cause a scandal on her path, without even meaning to. So how does this translate on the olfactory level? Jean-Paul Gaultier had the brilliant idea of crafting a very luminous and extremely sexy fragrance. Here, the aim is to embody the full radiance of the woman as perceived by the couturier. More specifically, So Scandal ! is built around a trio of white flowers, namely orange blossom, sambac jasmine and powdery tuberose.

Irina Shayk as face of the Jean-Paul Gaultier campaign

As with its previous version, and since 2019, the Scandal collection has been embodied on screen by the ambassador Irina Shayk, who represents, according to Jean-Paul Gaultier, everything that is sexiest and most powerful about women. It must be said that with her piercing blue eyes, her goddess-like body and her natural charisma, Irina Shayk has what it takes to disarm more than one person! For her, Paris remains the capital of glamour, of fashion. Everything happens here, it is magical! she enthuses. Paris has the scent of love and the Parisian woman is a classy, elegant woman. It is precisely all of this that Irina Shayk embodies in the advertisement for Jean-Paul Gaultier, with exuberance, of course!

So Scandal !: the return of the famous bottle with legs

Finally, like its predecessors, So Scandal ! comes in a bottle recognizable among all others. As before, it is topped with a particularly surprising cap formed by two legs. It is a little as if a woman had leaned toward this bottle to breathe in its scent, before suddenly falling into it! The walls of So Scandal !, meanwhile, are no longer entirely smooth, but form various facets that reflect light onto a juice that is now darker than before. So Scandal ! becomes particularly glamorous and tempting. It is an absolute symbol of femininity, whether in terms of design, scent or advertising. Once again, Jean-Paul Gaultier displays limitless inventiveness and brilliantly makes sensuality rhyme with eccentricity!
