L'Ange Noir Eau de Toilette

The story soon continued, giving rise to a fragrance in the same lineage named L'Ange Noir, in 2016. Building on its success, this fragrance has once again transformed into an Eau de Toilette version. A closer look at this new fragrance with its enigmatic transparency.

The new Givenchy bottle

L'Ange Noir did not fail to dazzle with its first version thanks to its bottle. Moreover, this relied on the full expertise of Stölzle Glass Group, a glassmaker whose production site is based in France and whose inventiveness seems limitless. For the creation of L'Ange Noir Eau de Toilette, this case has kept all its sophistication while transforming, as if suddenly caught by the light. L'Ange Noir Eau de Toilette has kept the voluminous, sculptural shape of its predecessor. It has sharp angles and appears cut like a diamond. The whole has traded its former black lacquer for more transparency. Likewise, its sophisticated spray, which once created a shimmering effect, has now disappeared. However, while its new transparency plays with the reflections of light, it is at times disrupted by a few dark notes, as suggested by its spray cap. The question thus remains open: is L'Ange Noir Eau de Toilette truly an angelic fragrance?

L'Ange Noir Eau de Toilette, a deceptively transparent fragrance

In terms of scent, it was the talented perfumer Émilie Coppermann who was tasked with answering this question. A highly inventive figure, she remains constantly attuned to the spirit of the times. Fascinated by scents since adolescence, she sees a source of inspiration in everything. She draws in particular on her exchanges and her many travels. Here, she chose to keep the main note of L'Ange Noir, white iris. This noble, powdery flower is one of the most refined and most expensive raw materials in the perfumer's entire palette. Thus, L'Ange Noir Eau de Toilette comes across as a very prestigious fragrance. This plant is here surrounded by peony and sesame for a highly elegant result. However, the whole composition rests on a chiaroscuro contrast. Its opening is particularly clear and airy, pairing the freshness of Calabrian bergamot with a juicy pear. Its base, by contrast, is darker and more structured, beautifully blending patchouli, cedar, sandalwood and musk. The result is an utterly fascinating fragrance, and it is impossible to say whether it is more angel or more demon.
