Dior Homme Sport

Dior Homme Sport was born in 2008, a freshness of citrus and ginger signed by François Demachy, without the iris of the parent eau de toilette. The house has recomposed it several times; the current version, which it compares to a boxer’s uppercut, pairs Calabrian bergamot and lemon, elemi and pink berries, frankincense and woods, in the line’s glass monolith.

Dior launches Dior Homme Sport in 2008, three years after Dior Homme. François Demachy, the house’s perfumer-creator since 2006, builds the first version around ginger, reinforced with citron, with a touch of rosemary and lavender. Jude Law is its face.

A recomposed formula

Dior has recomposed the fragrance several times: the critic Persolaise has reviewed its 2008, 2017 and 2022 versions. The current formula no longer lists ginger; it introduces frankincense, for the first time in Dior Homme Sport according to the house.

What the house says

Dior describes a lively, sensual eau de toilette, as striking as a boxer’s uppercut, the fragrance of a man of tender, magnetic virility. Demachy says he rethought its signature freshness “so that it strikes like a boxer’s uppercut,” in a spirit of casual elegance.

Persolaise considers the first, 2008 version a triumph, made original by its ginger, and is surprised it never became a big success. He finds the 2022 version as predictable as the original was new.

Jude Law embodies Dior Homme Sport in the 2008 launch film, directed by Daniel Askill and shot in the Bahamas.

The Dior Homme Sport launch film is shot on location in the Bahamas in May 2008, for the fragrance’s worldwide release. Jude Law, already the face of Dior Homme, plays the lead role.

It is directed by the Australian Daniel Askill, who had shot a Fahrenheit 32 commercial for Dior in 2006. He says he worked with a crew of seventy people, in an aesthetic far removed from Hedi Slimane’s.
