François Demachy at the helm of the Dior Homme saga
It was François Demachy, the official perfumer of the house of Dior, who created the Dior Homme saga. Dior Homme Sport differs from its predecessors. Less classic and spicier, the fragrance also comes across as very fresh, establishing itself as THE fragrance for the modern, athletic man. While preserving the identity of Dior Homme, François Demachy wanted to introduce a fruity and spicy facet here. Between vitality, sensuality and refinement, Dior Homme Sport is decidedly modern, much like François Demachy's own style. He has been the house's official perfumer since 2006. He often finds inspiration in many countries (India, Italy, the Australian desert, Sri Lanka…), not to mention Grasse, where jasmine and May rose are grown. François Demachy is behind such major fragrances as Eau Sauvage, J'Adore and also Givenchy's Dahlia Divin.
A relaxed composition built around ginger
For Dior Homme Sport, François Demachy wanted a simple composition built around Nigerian ginger. Ginger is a tropical plant that thrives in a hot and humid climate. In perfumery, the essence is obtained by steam distillation of the rhizomes, after they have been peeled and dried. Ginger, known for its relaxing and aphrodisiac properties, offers mellow, fresh tones. Dior Homme Sport opens with fresh, aromatic notes of lavender and rosemary paired with the bright freshness of citron. The heart is built on iris, an ingredient common to every version of Dior Homme. Iris absolute is one of the most precious, but also one of the most expensive, ingredients in niche perfumery. Its extraction process is very long and extremely delicate, which gives iris absolute its rarity. It gives off tones that are often very powdery, both green and woody, yet also pervasive. Here, iris is paired with elemi and ginger. The base turns woody yet sensual, thanks to cedarwood, sandalwood and vetiver, the quintessentially masculine ingredient.
