DIOR Sauvage Elixir Parfum

Sauvage Elixir (Dior, 2021) is the highest concentration of Sauvage, composed by François Demachy as a liqueur. Cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom open ahead of a grapefruit held in the background, a bespoke lavender holds the heart, and the base brings together licorice, sandalwood, patchouli, Haitian vetiver and an amber accord. A dense spicy woody fragrance, it is worn in small amounts and lasts a long time.

Sauvage Elixir, a fragrance synonymous with freedom

Sauvage Elixir by Dior is a fragrance that truly stands apart from its predecessors. However, its philosophy remains the same. It is still a fragrance synonymous with freedom, creating a sort of intimate connection between the man who wears it and his true nature. Sauvage Elixir seems capable of bringing back the animal instinct and the innate sophistication that lies dormant within each of them. Sauvage Elixir speaks to a sort of modern-day shaman, who fears neither the harshness of daily life nor his emotions. It strips away masks and delivers the portrait of a straightforward man, guided solely by his thirst for truth.

The luxurious bottle of Sauvage Elixir by Dior

Sauvage Elixir by Dior comes in a bottle different from its predecessors. To discover it, one only needs to open its case, crafted in the manner of a Penhaligon's. Inside lies a bottle available only in a 60 ml size. Cylindrical in shape like its predecessors, it rests on a concave base engraved with the initials of Christian Dior. Its label, meanwhile, is integrated directly into the glass. It reveals the name of this fragrance, Sauvage Elixir, in shiny silver lettering. The whole is defined by round, sensual lines, contrasting with the virility of its name. Sauvage Elixir has a stripped-down, forthright color, like navy blue ink.

Sauvage Elixir, a concentrate of wood and spices

In terms of scent, Sauvage Elixir is built around three successive accords. At first, it blends the sharp, lingering freshness of grapefruit with several spices. Some of them are warm, such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Others, like cardamom, are more zesty and cooler. At its heart, Sauvage Elixir by Dior contains lavender. Selected with precision, this Mediterranean flower is meant to be rich, refined and floral. Finally, the whole comes to a close with a marriage of syrupy, amber woods, paired with a touch of licorice.

Sauvage Elixir by Dior is a woody and very elegant fragrance. In its formula, the spices make their appearance from the very first seconds, while the freshness of grapefruit comes in more as a backdrop. Lavender and licorice are soon felt, before the whole shifts into a final intense, woody breath.

Olfastory’s review

Released in 2015, Dior's Sauvage traces its origins back to 1966. At that time, it was called Eau Sauvage and was embodied on screen by the iconic Alain Delon. In 2021, it renews itself once again and writes an unprecedented chapter of its history. This time, its image is carried by the charismatic actor Johnny Depp. Sauvage Elixir offers a new, more woody and spicy breath. Infinitely intense, it comes in a luxurious bottle. A true manifesto of freedom, it manages to reinvent itself and reveals a new face of masculinity. Here is our review on the subject.

Desert, red moon and pack

Johnny Depp, filmed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino in a nocturnal desert under a red moon, rallies a pack of wolves.

The film takes place in an arid desert, under a deep night pierced by a red moon, in dense, saturated colors. Johnny Depp, the face of Sauvage since the line's launch in 2015, plays the chords of Wild Thing on guitar and rallies a pack of wolves. Direction is by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, production by Iconoclast, and cinematography by Matias Boucard. A video source announces a broadcast in September 2021, without confirmation from the house, and a thirty-second spot titled Le nouvel elixir circulates in France in October 2021.

A subsequent campaign devoted to the fragrance in 2025 reunites Johnny Depp and Jean-Baptiste Mondino, for a face-off with a puma. It is described as designed in-house, rolled out across television, digital, social media and print, with a first broadcast on September 1, 2025.
