Sauvage Very Cool

The bottle before the juice. In spring 2017, Dior released Sauvage Very Cool Spray in a container new to the house, a 100 ml spray that works continuously, even turned horizontal, designed for travel. Dior calls it nomadic and touts its microdiffusion, an unprecedented profusion at the moment of spraying. This new gesture, rather than a season or a clientele, is what triggered the project.

A formula retouched for this gesture. François Demachy recounts having reworked the balance of the composition because of this new abundance upon spraying. He sees Very Cool Spray as a way to underline the structure of the 2015 juice and bring out its essence, so that it keeps a strong, fresh and direct signature. The presentation at the time dismisses the words derivative and lighter version: the 2015 skeleton remains, but the opening gains an amplified grapefruit, alongside Calabrian bergamot, and a sharp, radiant lavandin that heightens the sense of freshness. The rest of the composition is that of Sauvage.

A narrower bottle, an unchanged blue. The bottle keeps the line's blue gradient, but the silhouette becomes longer and slimmer, and the cap takes on the exact diameter of the base, whereas the 2015 bottle marks a step. Only one size exists, 100 ml, at Eau de Toilette concentration.

What it is, what it is not. Very Cool Spray is neither a body mist nor an eau fraîche: it is Sauvage at full concentration, under a different spraying mode, with a more bitter opening. Within the line, it slots between the 2015 original and the warmer 2018 flanker, as the freshest of the three.
