Sauvage Extrait

Sauvage Extrait is Dior’s first extrait de parfum for men, launched in 2026 and composed by Francis Kurkdjian. The densest version of the Sauvage line, it sets at its heart a Vietnamese oud essence with leather facets, in a chiaroscuro of Indonesian patchouli, Madagascan vetiver and Virginia cedarwood, lit at the top by bergamot and lavender from Provence.

Where to buy

Dior presents Sauvage Extrait as the first extrait de parfum in its history designed for men. Francis Kurkdjian, the house’s perfume creation director, signs the densest and woodiest interpretation of Sauvage, the men’s line born in 2015.

The fragrance came out in the United States on July 31, 2026, in a single 50 ml size, also sold in France. It joins a family that already includes an eau de toilette, an eau de parfum, a parfum and an elixir, and it is the first to bring oud into the line.

An extrait for men

For Kurkdjian, an extrait is the ultimate expression of a fragrance, “a quintessence, a pinnacle.” He says he wanted to take on the challenge of absolute nobility in a men’s extrait, keeping Sauvage as the thread that ties together every version of the line.

In an interview with Robb Report, the perfumer explains that he conceived the extrait as a counterpoint to the Elixir, which is sweeter and spicier. He is after a raw masculinity, which he links, in his interviews with Esquire and V Magazine, to the spirit of the 1970s and 1980s.

An oud grown for Dior

The oud in Sauvage Extrait comes from a Dior supply chain in Vietnam, where the wood has been cultivated for more than ten years. Reduced to powder and distilled, it yields an essence that the house describes as carrying notes of honey and incense, specific to this variety.

Once the raw materials are assembled, the formula matures and macerates for forty-two days, or six weeks. Dior presents this resting time as the condition for the extrait’s density, the highest in the entire Sauvage line.

Olfastory’s review

Adam Hurly finds the Sauvage signature softened by creamier woods and an oud that favors elegance over flash; Varanis Ridari stays neutral, drawn to its risk-taking but unconvinced by its dry oud and its price.

Johnny Depp, loyal to Sauvage

Johnny Depp, the face of Sauvage since 2015, leads the extrait’s film; the house adds a conversation between the actor and Francis Kurkdjian.

Johnny Depp, ambassador of Sauvage since the launch of the line in 2015, remains the face of the extrait. He appears in the campaign film, which keeps the wide-open spaces and pared-back staging of the line’s earlier films.

The house accompanies the release with a line from the actor, “In the wild, everything is always in front of you,” and a filmed conversation between Johnny Depp and Francis Kurkdjian around a simple question: what is an extrait?
