DIOR Sauvage Elixir Parfum

Sauvage Elixir (Dior, 2021) is the highest concentration of Sauvage, composed by François Demachy as a liqueur. Cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom open ahead of a grapefruit held in the background, a bespoke lavender holds the heart, and the base brings together licorice, sandalwood, patchouli, Haitian vetiver and an amber accord. A dense spicy woody fragrance, it is worn in small amounts and lasts a long time.

Released in 2015, Dior's Sauvage traces its origins back to 1966. At that time, it was called Eau Sauvage and was embodied on screen by the iconic Alain Delon. In 2021, it renews itself once again and writes an unprecedented chapter of its history. This time, its image is carried by the charismatic actor Johnny Depp. Sauvage Elixir offers a new, more woody and spicy breath. Infinitely intense, it comes in a luxurious bottle. A true manifesto of freedom, it manages to reinvent itself and reveals a new face of masculinity. Here is our review on the subject.

Olfastory’s review

Sauvage Elixir, a more elegant fragrance, with an enormous personality

Sauvage Elixir is a highly concentrated fragrance that preserves the DNA of its predecessors while offering them a more intoxicating heart of spices. With its lavender and its numerous woods, it reveals a more powerful and captivating sillage. Sauvage has defining notes to which I wanted to remain faithful while leading them toward an unprecedented intensity, explains perfumer François Demachy. To achieve this power, I chose to strip its architecture bare and keep only the essential. The sillage of this elixir is surprisingly deep, dense. Moreover, Sauvage Elixir contains only rigorously selected ingredients. Its raw materials show exceptional quality. While grapefruit stays in the background, spices dominate, as do the woods. Licorice, meanwhile, gives it all its originality.

Dior crafts a very refined bottle

In terms of bottle, Sauvage Elixir also offers undeniable refinement. Its bottle comes only in a single 60 ml size. On the other hand, it is undeniable: with its design, Sauvage Elixir moves upmarket and becomes more luxurious. Even its presentation box has been changed, taking on the look of a genuine case. Its midnight blue color is cut through with shiny silver lettering. Its label, meanwhile, is engraved directly into the glass. Finally, because every detail matters, the base of this bottle forms a dome engraved with the Christian Dior logo.

Johnny Depp, a fitting face of the campaign for Sauvage Elixir

To establish its image, Sauvage Elixir by Dior relies on a fitting face of the campaign. Like its predecessors, it is carried on screen by the talented actor Johnny Depp. Known for his many collaborations with Tim Burton, the actor is undoubtedly one of the most famous pirates on the planet. The man who so brilliantly embodies Jack Sparrow trades his corsair attire for a more rock 'n' roll style. A rebellious guitarist, Johnny Depp appears in the pitch-black night and already promises to make hearts race!

Sauvage Elixir, a message of freedom and authenticity

Sauvage Elixir is much more than a fragrance. It carries within it a genuine message of authenticity and freedom. Its character becomes even wilder than before. With this fragrance for men, Dior explores the limits of extreme concentration. Its name is provocative, as is its scent, while its bottle takes on an unmatched refinement. Sauvage Elixir is a manifesto of freedom inspired by the image of a man stripped bare.
