DIOR Miss Dior Esprit de Parfum Original

Miss Dior Original: A green chypre that brought a wind of freshness to the postwar period... The lovely Miss Dior, or rather the lovely Miss Dior fragrance, was born from the expert hands of Paul Vacher at the same time as the very first collection from her father, the great couturier Christian Dior, was released.

Miss Dior Original is a fragrance born in 1947, at the same time as Christian Dior's first couture collection. It is therefore an emblematic fragrance of the house, perfectly rooted in the New Look style of its era. As a bit of history, it was initially called Miss Dior and referred to Christian Dior's younger sister, Catherine. Then, in 2011, faced with the success of the house's new juice, Miss Dior Chérie, it was renamed Miss Dior Original, while the 2011 fragrance itself became Miss Dior, turning a page in the house's history. On the olfactory side, Miss Dior Original is a highly contrasted green chypre fragrance. Its bottle, meanwhile, has evolved somewhat over time. Let's take this opportunity to rediscover it.

The prestigious original bottle of Miss Dior Original

In 1947, upon its release, Miss Dior Original was presented in a highly prestigious and luxurious bottle. Indeed, in order to make his mark on the world of perfumery, Christian Dior wanted to leave a lasting impression. He also wanted a bottle that would evoke the style of his clothing. To do this, he called on the prestigious house of Baccarat. Together, they designed a bottle with a curved body, forming an amphora on a slender base and featuring a tapered stopper. The whole formed a figure-eight body, that is, with a clearly marked waist. This was, in fact, an iconic silhouette of the New Look style.

The evolution of the Miss Dior Original bottle

However, Christian Dior absolutely wanted his fragrance to evolve alongside his fashion. In 1950, he decided to renew its style, to match his new “Verticale” and “Oblique” collections. Abandoning the generous curves, he turned to a much more geometric bottle, which he described as “cut like a tailored suit”. This was then a more understated bottle, reflecting a new modernity... This is, moreover, the one that Dior has kept and that we see today on our shelves. The Miss Dior Original bottle is a slender rectangle, topped with a golden spray cap, itself covered by a transparent cap. A space is also provided on its front face for its label. In complete simplicity, it displays the name Miss Dior Original in gold lettering on a white background.

Dior's famous houndstooth pattern

Beyond these various elements, the Miss Dior Original bottle has another original feature: the relief pattern on its sides. For those unfamiliar with it, this is the houndstooth pattern, emblematic of the house of Dior, and inspired by the brand's menswear, typical of the 19th century. More specifically, it forms a kind of checkerboard, playing with matte and glossy reflections, as if to underscore the contrasts present in this fragrance. The whole plays with light, so that it is reflected in a pale yellow, highly sun-kissed juice.
