Miss Dior Esprit de Parfum Original carries Christian Dior’s first perfume, launched in 1947 with the New Look and signed by Paul Vacher and Jean Carles. Renamed Original from 2011, when the Miss Dior name passed to the former Chérie, this green floral chypre now comes down, for the house, to three materials: galbanum, jasmine and patchouli essence.

The 1947 Baccarat crystal amphora, and from 1950 a bottle “cut like a suit,” engraved in relief with the houndstooth the couturier loved.

Miss Dior came into the world in 1947 in a Baccarat crystal bottle designed by Fernand Guéry-Colas. The historian Élisabeth de Feydeau reads in it the curves of the New Look’s Corolle line: a cabochon on a slender neck, a body rounded down to a light foot, made in blue, white and red.

The crystal could no longer meet demand. In 1950, while preparing the Verticale collection, Dior wanted a bottle “cut like a suit”: straight-lined glass, engraved in relief with houndstooth, a motif borrowed from the menswear he loved.

For Élisabeth de Feydeau, this relief conveys the contrast between the perfume’s warmth and freshness. She also points to a small bow at the neck, taken from the swan René Gruau drew for the first image of Parfums Dior, and a black-and-white houndstooth case.
