From then on, success followed. This success she owed to her muse, her daughter Marguerite, born in 1897. This only child, a musician, would be a real source of inspiration for her. For her daughter's 30th birthday, Jeanne Lanvin decided to give her a perfume, which would be Arpège, a fragrance that became mythical and timeless.

A birthday full of love

In 1927, Jeanne Lanvin wanted to give her daughter a special and precious gift, as if to thank her for so much inspiration and love. Marguerite, who decided to go by Marie Blanche, was a musician at the time. Upon first smelling this fragrance, Marie Blanche exclaimed, it is like an arpeggio. Jeanne then decided to keep this name. Very close to her daughter, and proud of her career, Jeanne Lanvin stated that she wanted to give women what music brings to life. A musical perfume, a floral symphony, a feminine elegance—Arpège is all of this at once, but above all it is the most beloved and best-known perfume of the Lanvin house. It has managed to cross eras and trends without being updated. During this joyful interlude of the interwar period, Arpège stands as a vibrant testament of a mother's love for her only daughter, but above all, Arpège is a mythical perfume, an eternal figure rooted in the world of perfumery.

Arpège and its magnificent floral bouquet

Arpège is composed of more than 60 different essences, and the ingredients were all chosen with extreme quality. In order to offer this sumptuous gift to her daughter, Jeanne Lanvin surrounded herself with two perfumers, André Fraysse and Paul Vacher. They decided to draw inspiration from the perfume My Sin, giving it much more warmth. Arpège made its main note jasmine, accompanied by the most feminine of flowers, the rose. Arpège opens with aldehydic notes paired with the freshness of bergamot and neroli. The ultra-feminine heart is composed of a wonderful bouquet featuring Bulgarian rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley, and violet. These are then warmed by a delicately sensual base thanks to sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla, and tuberose. The exceptional bottle is signed by Armand Albert Rateau, a decorator of great renown. The apple-shaped bottle symbolizes the curves of a woman. On the front of the black sphere, a gold engraving created by the great artist Paul Iribe. This engraving, which later became the house's emblem, depicts Jeanne leaning over her daughter Marguerite.
