Ivory is a noble material forming the primary substance of animal tusks such as those of elephants, hippopotamuses, walruses or sperm whales. It has been coveted by humans since prehistoric times. At once robust and fascinating in its beauty, it embodies elegance as much as determination. This is precisely what is found in the perfume Ivoire from the house of Balmain. However, although it appeared in 2012, it should be noted that it actually has a much older history.

The history of the perfume Ivoire by the house of Balmain

Ivoire is a legendary perfume that was created for the very first time in 1982 by Pierre Balmain. It carries a very strong symbolic weight since it is the very last juice created by this talented designer just before his death. A true masterpiece of elegance and femininity, it was born of a fleeting encounter. Pierre Balmain explained: This is the name I gave to a dream. The name of a woman of sovereign beauty, dressed in very pale silk. I crossed paths with her for a moment at the foot of the Opéra staircase before she disappeared into the night. What remains in my memory is her hat and her perfume… It is therefore laden with feelings and emotions while remaining timeless and wildly elegant. It was under the direction of designer Olivier Rousteing that it was brought back to life, in 2012. Ivoire now embodies the image of the new Balmain woman. It is nonetheless laden with memories, carrying a touch of nostalgia that only reinforces its charm. Ivoire is a fragrance at the crossroads of time, remarkably modern while remaining particularly authentic. It is a charismatic and refined perfume endowed with great sensuality.

The new version of the perfume Ivoire

It was therefore to perfumers Michel Almairac and Jacques Flori that the task of reinterpreting this fragrant opus from the past was entrusted. They managed to preserve the authenticity of its predecessor while adding new facets to it. In other words, it is neither quite the same nor entirely different. It has simply been reinterpreted and readjusted for the women of today. Ivoire opens with a less aldehydic accord than before and one that is less spicy. On the other hand, it is more powdery and luminous, forming an enormous floral bouquet. Violet is here paired with orange blossom as well as jasmine and rose. Mandarin also comes to complete this blend with a bursting, tangy dynamism. Likewise, galbanum only reinforces this effect with its green and biting presence. The whole is wrapped in ylang-ylang, a material laden with sunshine and unrivaled exoticism. Ivoire thus becomes softer and then develops toward a more chypre base built on patchouli, vetiver and cedar. Finally, vanilla completes the whole with its suave warmth. As for the bottle, the original Ivoire container has also been modernized. Square in shape, it has traded its former sheath for clear transparency, displayed in cut glass with clean, modern lines.
