A perfume born with the New Look

Christian Dior presented his first collection in February 1947 and launched his first perfume that same year, Miss Dior, composed by Paul Vacher and Jean Carles. The name pays tribute to Catherine, the couturier’s sister. The juice is a green floral chypre, opening on galbanum.

Nearly eighty years later, the name covers a whole family. It even changed perfume along the way: since 2012, “Miss Dior” refers to the former Miss Dior Chérie, and the 1947 formula is sold under the name Original.

Here are the eleven perfumes of the line, in the order they were born.

The 1947 original

The original formula is still sold in two forms. The house sums it up in three materials, galbanum, jasmine and patchouli essence; François Demachy retouched it in 2011, the year it took the name Original.

1947 · Esprit de parfum · Galbanum, jasmine, patchouli

Miss Dior Esprit de Parfum Original

Christian Dior

The most concentrated version, sold in a 100 ml bottle. René Gruau drew its advertisements from 1947, including a white swan with a pearl necklace. Elena Vosnaki sees in it a leathery floral chypre, demure on the surface and animalic underneath.

1947 · Eau de toilette · Galbanum, jasmine, patchouli

Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale

Christian Dior

The same composition, lighter, renamed Eau de Toilette Originale in 2011. Elena Vosnaki found it more powdery and greener than the extrait, and considers today’s Originale respectable for what it is.

Chérie, the 2005 turning point

For the centenary of Christian Dior’s birth, the house entrusted Christine Nagel, under the direction of John Galliano, with a perfume for a new generation. Miss Dior Chérie broke with the green chypre: strawberry, caramelized popcorn and patchouli.

2005 · Eau de parfum · Strawberry, popcorn, patchouli

Miss Dior Chérie

Christian Dior

Riley Keough fronted the launch; Sofia Coppola filmed Maryna Linchuk in Paris in 2008, to a Brigitte Bardot song. Robin, of Now Smell This, found it sweet and fruity without heaviness, very young and very trendy.

Miss Dior, the name taken over

In 2012, the former Chérie became simply Miss Dior. François Demachy rewrote it in 2017 and in 2021, before Francis Kurkdjian recomposed it in 2026 as a vanilla chypre. In September 2012, Demachy also signed a concentrated evening version, Le Parfum.

2012 · Eau de parfum · Rose, vanilla, tonka bean

Miss Dior

Christian Dior

The version sold today: Grasse centifolia rose absolute, vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood, patchouli and rosewood. Natalie Portman fronts its campaigns, from Anton Corbijn in 2015 to Manu Cossu in 2026. Eleanor Vousden finds it more chypre than the 2021 version, Elena Knezevic sweeter.

2012 · Concentrated version · Rose, patchouli, amber

Miss Dior Le Parfum

François Demachy’s florals

From 2014 to 2020, Demachy extended the line with lighter florals, often built on rose and peony. Two of them are still sold, Blooming Bouquet and Rose N’Roses, alongside the 2019 eau de toilette.

2014 · Eau de toilette · Peony, rose, white musks

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet

Christian Dior

Demachy imagined it as a dress embroidered with flowers, around a recomposed peony. Sofia Coppola filmed Natalie Portman in the hotel at 30 avenue Montaigne, to La Vie en rose. Thomas Dunckley sees in it the most successful of the Miss Dior variations.

2020 · Eau de toilette · Grasse and Damask roses, geranium

Miss Dior Rose N'Roses

Christian Dior

The Kurkdjian era

Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creation Director at Dior, took up the line through its most concentrated versions. He signed a Parfum in 2024 that reinterprets the 1947 Miss Dior, an Essence in 2025, before recomposing the eau de parfum in 2026.

2024 · Parfum · Jasmine, strawberry, patchouli

Miss Dior Parfum

Christian Dior

A contemporary chypre in which a jasmine with facets of strawberry, peach and apricot answers mandarin, over patchouli, Alaskan cedar and moss. The houndstooth-engraved bottle bears a silver dagger bow. Dariush Alavi, of Persolaise, judges it harshly.

2025 · Essence de parfum · Blackberry, jasmine, oak

Miss Dior Essence

Christian Dior

A playful chypre: jammy blackberry and elderflower, jasmine sambac, an oak base. Zoe Natale Mannella photographed Natalie Portman in a crimson gown. Grace Lindsay, of Who What Wear, names it her favorite Miss Dior.

What ties the Miss Dior perfumes together

From one version to the next, the juice changes family: green chypre in 1947, fruity gourmand in 2005, light florals under Demachy, fruity and vanilla chypres under Kurkdjian. Rose, jasmine and patchouli nonetheless recur in almost every pyramid.

The bottle keeps its codes: houndstooth, the couturier’s favorite motif, engraved on the glass, and the bow at the neck. The travel formats, roller-pearls and Mini Miss solid perfumes, lead to the page of their perfume.
