Gucci Rush

Gucci Rush is a women’s eau de toilette launched by Gucci in 1999 and composed by Michel Almairac. This fruity chypre pairs peach, gardenia and freesia in the top, coriander, rose and jasmine in the heart, and patchouli, vanilla and vetiver in the base. Its flat, rectangular red bottle recalls a videotape.

Gucci launched Rush in 1999, a women’s eau de toilette composed by Michel Almairac. The house presents it as a spontaneous, irresistible fragrance, like love at first sight, intended for modern, self-assured women, and classifies it among the fruity chypres.

According to Victoria Frolova of Bois de Jasmin, Almairac set out to modernize the chypre, the classic accord of moss, patchouli, flowers and citrus. Thomas Dunckley notes that the fragrance was born under the creative direction of Tom Ford, then at the helm of Gucci.

Rush is still on sale, in 30, 50 and 75 ml. Gucci now presents it as a fragrance for evenings out and special occasions, and highlights its red bottle, compact enough to fit in a bag.

What critics say

Victoria Frolova (Bois de Jasmin) sees Rush as a modernized, luminous chypre, one of the great fragrances of its decade; Thomas Dunckley (The Candy Perfume Boy) loves it for its unapologetic excess, far from the demure floral its notes suggest.
