The tropical side of Eau d’Ivoire

While Ivoire is considered one of the most celebrated perfumes from the house of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing decided to revisit it while traveling in Miami. In doing so, he awakened within it all the warmth of South Beach. It is as though Ivoire had suddenly shifted into summer time. Yet it has not forgotten its origins for all that. It remains faithful to the iconic 1982 juice created by Pierre Balmain himself, as well as to its 2012 revisit, modernized by Olivier Rousteing. Altogether, it wonderfully embodies the image of the Balmain woman, at once understated and elegant while still capable of daring. Eau d’Ivoire is a fragrance that likes to draw attention despite its lightness. It is a charismatic and elegant perfume that brings the thrill of Miami Beach to the curve of the neck. Where Pierre Balmain said of the first version of this perfume that it was the name he had given to a dream, Olivier Rousteing instead chose to name it after his most recent journey.

Balmain’s concentrate of sunshine

Eau d’Ivoire is an untamed and sensual perfume, paying tribute to the beauty of women as well as to the Florida sun. It opens with a bright, tangy burst built on orange essence. Yet, as Balmain women are always highly elegant, the house added a touch of violet leaves to this ingredient for a more powdery, green rendering. The scent of Eau d’Ivoire then continues into a more floral and romantic heart. This contains jasmine and rose, a kind of carnal concentrate unveiling the sensuality of Balmain femininity. A note of pepper nonetheless comes to stir it all with its spicy impertinence. Finally, Eau d’Ivoire gradually shifts toward darker, woodier tones. It closes on a blend of vetiver, cedar, and patchouli. The whole is further enhanced by a smooth, warm touch of vanilla. On the aesthetic side, it is housed in a bottle similar to that of its predecessor. Square in shape, it has traded its former sleeve for a transparent purity. It is fashioned from glass cut with clean, modern lines. Eau d’Ivoire is then topped with a cap resting on an ivory-colored ring. This only enhances the color of its nude juice, onto which a thoroughly elegant label is affixed. The aesthetic of this fragrance is thus wholly faithful to the elegant restraint of the Balmain brand.
