31 rue Cambon

Chanel launched 31 Rue Cambon in 2007, one of the six fragrances that opened the Les Exclusifs collection, alongside 28 La Pausa, Coromandel, Bel Respiro and the Eau de Cologne. Jacques Polge, the house perfumer, composed it.

The address

According to the house, Gabrielle Chanel founded her couture house at 31 rue Cambon, Paris, in 1918. The address brings together the boutique, the haute couture salons, the workshops, the design studio and Gabrielle Chanel’s private apartment.

The house recounts that Gabrielle Chanel liked to sit in the shadows at the top of the mirrored staircase to watch every detail of her shows.

The house’s narrative

Chanel described the address as the epicentre of Gabrielle Chanel’s world, where her need for simplicity and her taste for the baroque came together: it took, the house said, the complex form of a beautiful chypre to put these contrasting passions into scent. Today it presents it as a subtle, sophisticated woody fragrance where simplicity meets strength.
