Jacques Polge gave us the magnificent Les Exclusifs collection, which brought back to life, for the better, a magnificent Cuir de Russie or a N°22. But the house's official perfumer did not stop there, offering us, like gifts, Coromandel, Bel Respiro or 28 la Pausa. Gems of creativity and craftsmanship that highlight the absolute modernity of the house of Chanel and its perfumer. So how should one view the arrival of this retro, chypre 31 Rue Cambon within a rather innovative collection?

31, Rue Cambon is meant as a fragrant tribute to the very famous address of Gabrielle Chanel and her premises. The Chanel boutique, the salon, the founder's private apartments are all located at this address, and it is precisely there that the lady composed all her finest creations.

As we have already seen, 31 Rue Cambon does not seek to exude the modernity of the other fragrances composed by Jacques Polge for Les Exclusifs. This amber floral aims to be luminous and piquant, soft and sensual like a parfum de peau or like sunbeams piercing through the windows of Chanel's legendary address.

31 Rue Cambon opens on a dynamic, bright start with a bergamot note spiked with black pepper. Then jasmine mingles with rose and ylang-ylang to propel their floral beauty toward a candied plum that renders them syrupy. A touch of iris, the quintessential classic raw material of perfumery, brings its powdery, chic and retro note to these luminous flowers. Finally, labdanum and patchouli, wild powers so beloved by Chanel, form a chypre sillage that manages to remain wonderful and timeless despite the absence of the traditional oakmoss, now heavily (perhaps too heavily) regulated in perfumery.
