J’adore
J’adore is the feminine pillar of Dior, launched in 1999 at the instigation of Sabina Belli, the house's international perfume products director, and composed by Calice Becker alongside Ann Gottlieb. This sun-kissed fruity floral, presented in an amphora bottle signed by Hervé Van der Straeten, took the top spot in the French feminine market from Chanel's N°5 in 2010. More than twenty-five years later, it remains Dior's leading feminine reference.

Where to buy
J’adore does not tell a “story,” but instead offers a glamorous, chic and luxurious image of a timeless woman dressed by Dior. Luxury is found in the bottle as much as in the raw materials, and gold, a precious metal revered by Dior, surrounds the precious perfume as much as the advertising concept. J’adore by Dior, far more than a perfume, clothes women in a delicate, sensual and noble aura.
J’adore everything that shines is Dior
Fine perfumery communication specialists usually create a perfume around a concept, an image that the fragrance wants to convey to its audience: the girl-woman, the independent man… For Dior and the 1999 launch of J’adore, none of that was used, since the perfume was meant to represent the Dior haute-couture house itself, rather than a symbolic image or an ambassador. And Dior is THE haute-couture house specializing in the crafting of precious materials, so the essence meant to express the deep values of the Dior house had to be luxurious, gleaming with a thousand lights of gold, sophisticated and sensual.
For great perfumes like J’adore, it is the house that expresses itself, states François Demachy, Dior's in-house perfume creator.
The advertisement offers the same golden, luxurious world in which the first ambassador, Carmen Kass, filmed by Mondino, bathes in pure liquid gold. Later replaced by Charlize Theron, gold remains, despite the actress's beauty, the main character of the setting and mood. Yet the originality of the staging, showing the sublime Charlize Theron completely undressing to wear nothing but J’adore, struck people's minds and created an event. J’adore is a perfume, but also a powerful image for the Dior house, which develops the concept of luxury down to the smallest detail.
A legendary bottle for a precious floral perfume
The essence of this magnificent and legendary perfume J’adore was created by Calice Becker around the loves of the Dior house. Christian Dior stated, for instance, that after women, flowers are the most divine creations, so the perfume had to be composed of very beautiful floral flourishes while remaining modern and highly feminine. And the J’adore fragrance fully delivers on these promises.
Indeed, the most remarkable feature of the legendary J’adore is its use of rare and highly luxurious floral notes such as crystallized orchid, French violet, or champaca flower, a lovely member of the magnolia family native to Asia.
In the top notes, bergamot precedes mandarin. The heart brings together rose, jasmine, violet and orchid, joined by plum. In the base, white musks and blackberry. Several materials appear in accounts from 1999 without being confirmed there: peach, champaca, vanilla.
To present this wonderful fruity floral perfume, the bottle takes the shape of a precious amphora topped with a gold collar that raises a drop of crystal. No label is needed; the precious bottle, created by Hervé Van der Straeten, is a work of art that is both refined and sophisticated.
J’adore was meant to be the olfactory mouthpiece for the great values of the Dior house. In every respect, whether through the advertising campaigns, the packaging or the fragrance itself, J’adore constantly evokes Dior and its natural, graceful sophistication. Conceived as a bouquet of flowers that the house offers to the women so dear to Dior, the fragrance has never stopped making their hearts beat faster.

The advertising
J’Adore is a Christian Dior fragrance that has become legendary. Released in 1999, J’Adore immediately took the lead in women's sales. Sensual and floral, J’Adore also puts the Dior house's craftsmanship in the spotlight. Both feminine and radiant, J’Adore knows how to capture attention and quickly becomes essential to the skin. Predominantly floral, the composition also offers touches of fruit as well as ultra-green touches. There is no doubt that J’Adore is a perfume paying tribute to Christian Dior, and to the love he had for the flowers of his garden.
Charlize Theron for J’adore, a woman in the fullness of her sensuality
This was the first time the Dior house decided to call on a celebrity to represent one of its perfumes. It chose actress Charlize Theron because the Dior house stated that she wonderfully embodied modern femininity as well as the brand's values. Born in 1975 in South Africa, Charlize Theron is an actress known for numerous film roles, such as The Italian Job, Monster, and Prometheus. Originally destined for classical dance, Charlize Theron first became a model before turning to film. On the subject of the Dior woman, Charlize Theron states that she truly believes women are contradictory, dual, perpetually caught between saint and bold spirit. She thinks that what makes women truly powerful is this ability to accept their contradictions. The character of J’adore is just like that: she has nothing to hide that she should be ashamed of, she is strong while remaining very close to vulnerability, she is powerful and sensual…
Dior celebrates its 15th anniversary with an advertisement signed Jean-Baptiste Mondino
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of its star perfume, the Dior house chose to imagine a new video, signed Jean-Baptiste Mondino and titled The Future Is Gold… Here, the French director shows a return to origins, amid elements such as water, wind, rain and fire. Here, Charlize Theron lets go in order to find herself and discover her own nature. She is found in the midst of an arid desert, wearing a short, simple, golden dress. Drawn to the sun, the actress moves forward, then stops, as if to savor the sensation of the sun on her body. Here, femininity is above all sun-kissed and radiant. The advertisement is wrapped in Woodkid's song, I Love You, taken from his album The Golden Age, released in 2013. Sensual and filled with emotion, Jean-Baptiste Mondino's advertisement beautifully awakens the very essence of beauty.
J’Adore is one of the greatest successes of the Dior house. Ultra-feminine, the fragrance pays tribute to the love Christian Dior held for flowers. Charlize Theron has been the face of J’Adore for 15 years. She wonderfully represents the femininity and sensuality conveyed by the composition.
