Terre d’Hermes Eau Givrée, a new fresh Eau de Parfum for summer 2022. In the French dictionary, there are words that do not deceive. These are kinds of magic words, resonating with force, source words... The Earth is one of them! Because it is the foundation for all of us, it naturally carries a universal reach.
Because explorers describe crossing the elements as the source of an unprecedented emotion, it is precisely this that the masculine fragrance Terre d’Hermès has evoked since its release in 2006. In 2022, the Hermès house reinvents its fragrance for men and invites us toward another territory. This time, cold gains ground and ice makes its way absolutely everywhere. A breakdown of the fresh and delicate composition of Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée.
Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée, a fragrance by Christine Nagel
The very first Terre d’Hermès had been created by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, who was then head of fragrance creations for the Hermès house. Since then, he has retired and has been replaced by a talented woman: Christine Nagel. It is therefore she, as Hermès’s official nose, who had the difficult task of interpreting an icy version of this cult fragrance. Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée is described by the Hermès house as a handful of Earth, a handful of ice, a fragrance in which the Earth blows hot and cold. Christine Nagel adds: with this new creation, I sought to express the intense freshness of a primal earth covered in frost.
The very vivid olfactory pyramid of Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée
To achieve such a result, Christine Nagel first relied on citrus fruits. Thus, the top notes of Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée are essentially composed of citron. This ingredient releases a delicious scent, finer and more subtle than that of lemon, while also being less sweet than the breath of mandarin or orange. Citron brings this fragrance a smooth scent of extreme delicacy. In its heart, it is followed by a very contrasted pairing. Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée contains Timut pepper, a powerful and spicy ingredient, paired here with the far more incisive freshness of juniper. Gradually, Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée gains in longevity. Its masculinity asserts itself in a woody base, to which a few mineral touches are added.
A composition that is reminiscent of the previous Terre d’Hermès
While Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée is indeed a brand-new creation, it should be noted that its scent is reminiscent of that of its predecessor, Terre d’Hermès from 2006. Indeed, the latter already began with the fresh breath of citrus fruits. However, these were grapefruit and bergamot. The original pink pepper has this time been replaced by juniper berries, while the black pepper of Terre d’Hermès has become Timut pepper. Finally, the woody and mineral base notes are shared by both masculine fragrances. Terre d’Hermès Eau Givrée is therefore an olfactory evolution of Terre d’Hermès, which nonetheless loses nothing of its former DNA.
