Terre d'Hermès Flacon H

The earth is a powerful symbol, and it is precisely this one that Hermès chose to reinvent in a fragrance in 2006. Having become the house's emblem, the Terre d’Hermès fragrance is thus honored every year with the creation of a limited edition bottle.

Terre d'Hermès Flacon H

Where to buy

The Flacon H of 2017 has thus just made its appearance and reveals itself in shapes that are more geometric and more urban than ever. The fragrance of this juice, meanwhile, remains unchanged. It retains all its woody and spicy nuances, originally crafted by the talented Jean-Claude Ellena.

The protagonists behind Hermès bottle design

The new Terre d’Hermès bottle displays a brand-new visual while still retaining its original shape. That shape had been designed by the talented Philippe Mouquet, a renowned designer who collaborated with the house of Hermès very early in his career. He recalls having first slipped into the world of Hermès in the late 80s, when he was a student of applied arts. He was in fact awarded two years in a row by Hermès as part of the young designers competition organized by the Comité Colbert. That marked the beginning of a long collaboration. Since then, Philippe Mouquet has overseen the visual identity of every Hermès business line, whether leather goods, tie prints, belt hardware, watches, or bottle design. His first project related to fragrance dates back to 2004 and is none other than the iconic Flacon H of Terre d’Hermès. In fact, it draws inspiration from the Arc de Triomphe. This strong shape has always been kept by Hermès, and only the graphics on the glass itself have evolved. This time, it was the British designer Nigel Peake who had the honor of giving free rein to his imagination on this bottle. Like Philippe Mouquet, this is not his first collaboration with Hermès. He had previously designed a range of scarves with a very urban look. It is precisely this abstract spirit, vibrant with the colors of the city, that is found on the 2017 Flacon H of Terre d’Hermès.

The brand-new design of the 2017 Flacon H of Terre d’Hermès

A true creative statement, the 2017 Flacon H of Terre d’Hermès takes us into the favored world of the Irish artist Nigel Peake: that of the city. Yet the city is not perceived in a conventional way and appears resolutely graphic and deconstructed. The urban spirit of Hermès seems to hover between sky and earth. Lines intersect there in an almost illogical way, opening our vision to new perspectives. The Terre d’Hermès bottle plays with an unexpected optical effect while still keeping its original details, such as the Hermès saddle stud, the silver-toned metal at its shoulders, its sliding cabochon, and its orange-toned imprint on its H-shaped sculpted base. The overall result proves particularly modern and urban, for a rendering that remains distinctly masculine.
