Where to buy

Indeed, men's grooming remained content with this product for a long time as a substitute for perfume, while women had already tasted the full art of perfumery. Today, as if to immerse us once again in history and offer us a share of the heritage of this unique craftsmanship, Hermès delivers a collection of Colognes. Now a cult favorite, its olfactory assemblage is enriched today with a new fragrance named Eau de Citron Noir.

Eau de Citron Noir, a fresh and smoky fragrance

As the name of this new fragrance suggests, Eau de Citron Noir places black lemon at the center of its composition. Coming from Iran, this citrus fruit is a condiment traditionally used in Persian cuisine or in the making of spice blends. At its base, it is a lime that has been brined and dried in the sun. As it dries, its thin peel turns brown, which gives it its name. To the nose, its scent is quite fresh, powerful and concentrated. It is also sweeter than that of a traditional lemon and in this sense slightly recalls the breath of clementine. It carries subtle smoky and fermented notes that give it a slightly metallic edge. Now, it is this whole complexity that is found in Hermès's Eau de Citron Noir. This juice is characterized by a striking vivacity combined with a certain depth. The result is a singular and somewhat paradoxical composition.

The famous Hermès Colognes collection

Eau de Citron Noir is part of the iconic Hermès Eau de Cologne collection. This olfactory assemblage was initiated in 1979, with the creation of the very first perfume signed by Hermès. The house had the idea of reinterpreting the scent of the Eaux de Cologne of the past. The aim was to preserve their freshness and authenticity while adding a touch of extra tenacity. The first Hermès Eau de Cologne was later renamed, in 1998, Eau d’Orange Verte. A true icon of perfumery, it was subsequently followed by numerous other fragrances in the same style, forming a collection rich in many flavors. Eau de Citron Noir is a dive into the history of Hermès, daring for the very first time a fresh and smoky scent.

The lantern bottle of Eau de Citron Noir

Like all the perfumes in the Hermès Eau de Cologne collection, Eau de Citron Noir is presented in the house's iconic lantern bottle. It is a slender, refined glass column, with a simple and clean design. As a bit of background, this container draws its inspiration from the shape of the lanterns once found on horse-drawn carriages. Indeed, as a former saddler and harness maker, Hermès has always been very close to the world of horses and travel. Today, this bottle is characterized by a lovely blue color. The whole is topped with a black screw cap that offers a generous gesture.
