This ultra glamorous and ultra feminine Poison still bewitches heads and hearts, but what is the secret of its eternal youth?
Poison, or the bewitching myth of the sultry woman of the 1980s
A perfume is an open door onto a rediscovered universe, Christian Dior told us at the birth of his irresistible Poison in 1985. And thanks to this magic potion, a universe of charm, mystery, and seduction opened up for all the women of the 1980s who wished to set themselves apart, to stand out.
Poison is the fragrance of an absolute seductress who defies taboos, skirts scandal and danger, while embracing her beauty and femininity with wild, reckless allure. For the first time since the creation of Dior perfumery, the house set aside its own name and created a distinctive, dreamlike universe that, even without a Dior on the label, would captivate and sell just as well.
The communication surrounding the launch of Poison was steeped in this legendary universe, drawing on grand imagery from mythology and fairy tales to better convey its scent. The first advertisement for the fragrance, released in 1985, showcased the Poison bottle, which bore an uncanny resemblance to the witch's vial from Snow White or to the apple, the famous forbidden fruit of Adam and Eve. The woman bound in black flowers holds her Poison in her hands like a precious treasure, ready to defend it from the fascinating and dangerous black panther.
The sultry image of Poison inspired creators and advertisers alike and definitively launched this fragrant object into the ranks of perfumery bestsellers within the first weeks of sale. Thus each new communication surrounding the fragrance or one of its flankers became the subject of highly creative work, supported by faces of the campaign as mysterious as the elixir they presented.
Poison, an ultra oriental magic potion consumed without any moderation!
Of course, the black amethyst bottle of the famous Poison inevitably recalls Eve's forbidden apple, or that of poor Snow White, a shape directly inspired by the work of Maurice Marinot, great glassmaker of the 1920s. Yet the greatest surprise is certainly still inside the bottle...
Indeed, beyond the fantastical and provocative story it tells, Poison surprises and breaks the rules, particularly through its wholly original and wholly innovative fragrance.
The beautiful floral oriental Poison does not hesitate to play with plum and coriander top notes to display its bold colors from the very first moment. Then the passionate and tumultuous heart literally explodes into overdosed tuberose notes accompanied by exceptional coconut notes, themselves unprecedented at such a pronounced dose. However, the floral facets of the tuberose are set off by soft orange blossom and delicately fruity apple notes enhanced with a touch of cinnamon. Then the woman, half angel, half poison, reveals her true enchantress nature by exhaling a deep sillage of labdanum and opoponax, entwined with seductive gourmand notes of vanilla and honey.
Some perfumes are born legendary. Provocative and mysterious from its creation, Poison is Dior's ultimate weapon of heightened seduction, Dior.
How could one forget a fragrance as addictive and seductive as Dior's Poison? Every woman wearing the fragrance becomes an object of desire, every step Poison takes down a street astonishes and captivates. Such was its success that some restaurants even had to ban it: No smoking. No Poison! Far more than a provocation, Poison marked its era with its deadly effluvia. Poison got married and had many children...
