Originally, amber is a kind of stone expelled into the open sea by the sperm whale. On contact with water, its liquid form becomes a solid block. Then, time shapes its odor, charging it with salt, sea spray, marine air… Amber has a unique scent, at once warm and aquatic, discreet and animalic. Its many nuances have made it highly appreciated in perfumery. What is more, its rarity has always been a source of fascination. Nevertheless, as natural ambergris is no longer used today in perfumery, Jean-Claude Ellena set out to recreate its flavor from other ingredients. L'Ambre des Merveilles Calligraphie contains labdanum, a resin derived from cistus and renowned for its vegetal warmth nuanced with more sensual notes. The formula of L'Ambre des Merveilles Calligraphie is also completed by earthy, dry and narcotic patchouli. Then vanilla joins in, making it more suave and exotic.
