Bois d'Argent

Bois d’Argent is the shared eau de parfum that Annick Ménardo composed in 2004 for Dior, under the artistic direction of Hedi Slimane, alongside Eau Noire and Cologne Blanche. A floral woody for the house: an accord of wood pierced with powdery iris and studded with incense, which Wikiparfum rounds out with myrrh, honey, patchouli, and leather. A pillar of La Collection Privée, in 50, 100, and 200 ml.

Where to buy

Dior tells the birth of Bois d’Argent through a single date: 2004, when Hedi Slimane, creative director of Dior Homme, conceives with Francis Kurkdjian and Annick Ménardo the founding trio of La Collection Privée Christian Dior. Cologne Blanche is the daytime fragrance, Eau Noire the evening fragrance, Bois d’Argent the fragrance for every moment.

Hedi Slimane’s trio

Jeanne Doré, on Auparfum, and Dariush Alavi, on Persolaise, attribute Bois d’Argent to Annick Ménardo and the other two fragrances to Francis Kurkdjian; Now Smell This dates it to 2004 within the perfumer’s body of work. Doré reads into it a royal holy trinity: the princess, the queen, and the all-powerful king.

Auparfum traces the growth of the collection: Ambre Nuit by François Demachy joins the trio in 2009, a large series inspired by the couture heritage arrives in 2010, Cuir Cannage in 2014, Fève Délicieuse in 2015. Bois d’Argent remains, along with Eau Noire, one of the fine pieces of a collection the magazine judges uneven.

Reissue and Esprit de Parfum

In 2022, Francis Kurkdjian, newly appointed perfumer of the house, reunites and reissues the 2004 trilogy, reports Persolaise, for whom Bois d’Argent has remained the fragrance he once knew. In 2025, Dior gives it an Esprit de Parfum, a radical concentration signed by Kurkdjian, which L’Officiel Belgique praises for its refinement and architecture.

Today, Dior places Bois d’Argent among its woody fragrances, a shared eau de parfum with amber and floral notes, a favorite piece that pairs with anything, says the house, the pure embodiment of its refinement. It is sold in 50, 100, and 200 ml, with engraving available, a trial sample included with the order.

Olfastory’s review

Doré (Auparfum) makes it a favorite to be tamed; Alavi (Persolaise) admires Ménardo’s elegance but takes issue with the amber woods of the base.

The advertising

A seventeen-second spot

The studio Reepost presents a 17-second film for Bois d’Argent, directed by Thibault Jouvent and produced by Blackbear, in digital formats, undated.

Dior does not communicate a campaign for Bois d’Argent: La Collection Privée presents itself through its bottles and materials. The post-production studio Reepost nonetheless presents a seventeen-second spot devoted to the fragrance, adapted for all digital formats, for which it handled editing and color grading.

The studio’s page credits Thibault Jouvent with direction, Blackbear with production, So Represent as agency, Didier Le Fouest with color grading. It does not date the film and places it at the start of summer; no press retained documents it, and the attribution remains the studio’s own.
