Hugo Man

Hugo Man perfume by Hugo Boss Men have always appreciated particularly fresh fragrances. Indeed, for a very long time, they only wore Colognes. This need for freshness and vitality thus seems to be rooted in their genes. The house Hugo Boss understood this well, and this is how it created a clear and energizing fragrance named Hugo Man.

Where to buy

This has become a great classic of men's perfumery, highly appreciated for its bold freshness and its message encouraging men to live according to their own desires.

The self-assertion of the Hugo Boss man

When talking about fresh fragrances, this does not necessarily correspond to a lack of personality. Moreover, Hugo Boss clearly proved this, in 1995, with its Hugo Man fragrance. Furthermore, it was associated with a slogan that could not have been clearer: Don't imitate, innovate! From then on, Hugo Man was perceived as a free and bold fragrance. Hugo then resonated as a declaration of independence, freedom and self-assertion. In other words, it is a fragrance designed for men proud to be who they are, free of any artifice. The Hugo Boss man is far removed from any cliché, without accessories, without a saccharine smile, without pretense or trendy clothing. Hugo Boss thus invites men to build their own style rather than follow the latest trends of the moment. Hugo Man is the fragrance of a masculinity that is both individualistic and determined. Its freshness speaks volumes about the dynamism of the one who wears it, and its universality simply gives free rein to each man's personality.

The freshly aromatic scent of Hugo Man

Hugo Man is an energizing fragrance that is nonetheless full of character. It takes up the classic fougère theme, a staple of men's perfumery. It thus features fresh and floral notes, but in a much more modern guise than usual. Hugo Man opens on a citrus scent. It combines bergamot and grapefruit while complementing them with a fruity touch of green apple and the intense freshness of mint. There, the classic fougère accord takes its full place. Hugo Man blends the peppery elegance of geranium with the Mediterranean, aromatic character of lavender, sage, thyme and basil. The whole is nonetheless softened by the presence of lily of the valley, a very airy plant. Finally, an almost aquatic jasmine enriches the whole with its opulence. The base of Hugo Man then fades into a woody accord. This combines cedarwood, sandalwood, pine needles, oakmoss, vetiver and patchouli. Musk asserts the sensuality of this fragrance, while rum adds a touch of intoxication to the whole. As for the bottle, the Hugo Man flacon has become iconic. It takes the form of a functional glass flask revealing the blue-green color of its juice, contrasting with the red of its signature. Similarly, its cap unscrews like that of a traditional flask, while being connected to the rest of the bottle by a fabric strap.

Olfastory’s review

A major German ready-to-wear brand, founded in 1924, the house Hugo Boss is famous for its perfectly tailored suits, made from high-quality raw materials. However, it also occasionally designs deceptively casual products, as evidenced notably by one of its perfumery best-sellers: Hugo Man perfume from 1995. This fruity eau de toilette is now considered a true reference in the world of men's fragrances. So what accounts for such success? Here is our review.

The advertising

Released in 1995, Hugo Man appears as the fragrance of free and bold men. Both ultra fresh and light, Hugo Man is aimed at simple men, who do not like spending too much time in the bathroom, but who nonetheless want to remain appealing. At the time of its release, Hugo Man appeared as an avant-garde fragrance combining a sea breeze with woody and spicy notes. Hugo Man is built around the classic aromatic fougère, thus combining modernity and timelessness.

Hugo Man, a sport in black and white

In order to accentuate the virility of the Hugo man, the house Hugo Boss chose a black and white advertisement. Here, Hugo Man, portrayed by Adrian Sahores, deliberately plays with the precious nectar… He tosses the bottle in the air, sprays the fragrance at the camera and has fun, all set to a song by Peaches titled Boys wanna be her. Adrian Sahores was also chosen to represent the Hugo Man Extreme flanker. He moves under the camera of Benjamin Lennox and comes across as a man who is both stylish and dynamic.

Adrian Sahores, the man of the Hugo Man ad

Adrian Sahores was born in 1990 in Paris. He was simply noticed while shopping. He was then asked if he would like to take part in a fashion show. This is how he went to the Ford agency (which became Premium Models) to sign his first contract. Adrian Sahores says he is proud that Hugo Boss chose him as its face, since his father wore Hugo Boss fragrances. When asked about his philosophy of life, Adrian Sahores states, attributed to him: appreciate the family and the life we have. Be respectful, open and tolerant. Do good without expecting anything in return, except perhaps a smile… His first major show was for Prada in Milan in June 2009. Gradually, Adrian Sahores walked the runway for the biggest names, such as Hermès, Gucci or Lanvin. He has also appeared on the cover of several fashion magazines, such as Vogue, Vogue Hommes Japan, or Men Magazine.

Hugo Man is an avant-garde fragrance for its time and offers an ultra fresh aromatic fougère scent. Hugo Man is the fragrance of men who are both natural and appealing. Embodied by Adrian Sahores, the Hugo Man ad plays with the bottle and depicts a young, self-assured man. An increasingly sought-after French model, Adrian Sahores is also the face of Hugo Man Extreme.
