David Apel
The world of perfumery is fairly compartmentalized. Although the finest fragrances now travel the world over, only a handful of renowned companies are responsible for the bulk of creations. As a result, many perfumers have worked for several of these companies, sometimes returning to them more than once. This was precisely the career path of David Apel.
David Apel's professional career
The career of perfumer David Apel began in 1980. He was recruited by Givaudan as a formulator. He held this position for eight years before becoming a perfumer in 1988. Then, eager to discover another environment, David Apel worked with Fragrance Resources from 1997 to 2001. Nevertheless, he soon returned to his first love and rejoined Givaudan. Since 2007, David Apel has been employed at Symrise, a German fragrance production company. This time he holds the position of senior perfumer.
David Apel's creations
David Apel is a fairly discreet figure who does not like to talk about his personal life, his career, or his preferences. Only his numerous olfactory creations stand as testimony to these. Furthermore, we owe to David Apel some great successes that now fill our perfumery shelves. He is behind the creation of Cerruti 1881 pour femmes for the eponymous house, the essential Hugo for Hugo Boss, numerous scents from the Private Blend collection by Tom Ford, as well as the iconic Black Orchid.
Generally speaking, David Apel is a perfumer strongly drawn to bold fragrances with a fine structure. His career has been marked by numerous successes, including winning the young perfumer award in 1991. Moreover, he is continually immersed in the world of perfumes, being himself married to a perfumer, Caroline Sabas.
