Chance Eau Vive

Chance Eau Vive is the fourth interpretation of Chance, launched by Chanel in June 2015. Olivier Polge created the formula, the first Chance he composed for the house. Chanel describes it as a floral-zesty fragrance: grapefruit and blood orange open it, a jasmine heart carries it, and cedar and iris accords close it, in the line’s round bottle.

In 2015, Persolaise considered Eau Vive the liveliest of the Chance waters, with a grapefruit full of bite, while regretting that Olivier Polge had signed a variation rather than an entirely new perfume.

What critics say

Persolaise, July 2015

Writing on a sample provided by Chanel, Persolaise regretted in July 2015 that Olivier Polge’s first Chance was a variation rather than the entirely new feminine fragrance he expected from the house. He noted the curious position Chance holds in Chanel’s range.

The grapefruit surprised him: an endearing, convincing fruit for a mainstream release. He did not find the near-holographic sparkle of a more daring work, but a fruit that keeps its bite and verve.

The base struck him as predictable, clean woods as if freshly planed, where he found the cedar of the whole line, with a well-scrubbed patchouli. He still considered Eau Vive the liveliest of the Chance waters, which suits its name.
