Sauvage Very Cool Spray

Published

Sauvage Very Cool Spray is the aerosol version of the Sauvage Eau de Toilette, which François Demachy adapted for Dior in 2017. An unbreakable bottle, propelled by compressed air alone, sprays the fragrance in any position. The fragrance keeps the original’s Calabrian bergamot, Sichuan pepper and Ambroxan, and puts grapefruit at the top.

Varanis Ridari (The Scented Devil) sees it as nothing more than a lightened variation of Sauvage, more citrusy at the top, and finds the aerosol a poor deal for the buyer.

What critics say

The Scented Devil: a lightened Sauvage

Varanis Ridari, on The Scented Devil, on October 15, 2022, takes the opposite view from the house: for him, Very Cool Spray is indeed a variation of Sauvage, lightened and more citrusy at the top. He sums it up in one phrase: a Sauvage on a diet, in a can.

He notes the grapefruit and a minty touch added to the bergamot, a little elemi that softens the heart, and beyond that finds the original Sauvage: pink pepper, dry woods, lavandin, geranium, patchouli and vetiver, carried by Ambroxan.

He finds the format a poor deal: the can empties quickly, which erases the price gap with the eau de toilette. In his view, the 2018 Eau de Parfum better answers the wish for a less harsh Sauvage; he dates the discontinuation of Very Cool Spray to 2021, for lack of sales.
