Sauvage Eau de Parfum (Dior, 2018) is the amber version of Sauvage by François Demachy. Reggio bergamot opens the fragrance, the heart keeps the lavender and Sichuan pepper from the eau de toilette and adds star anise from China and nutmeg, the base pairs Papua New Guinea vanilla absolute with ambroxan. Warmer, rounder and more tenacious than the original, it is aimed at evening wear and the cold season.
Sauvage Eau de Parfum first appeared in 2015, breaking sharply with Dior's usual perfumery style. Yet its success was immediate. Sauvage Eau de Parfum displays a design very close to that of its predecessor. However, a few details differ between the two versions. Sauvage Eau de Parfum incorporates a slightly orange-tinted base. From then on, even though black and midnight blue still dominate its bottle, Sauvage Eau de Parfum seems warmer than before. And this is precisely how its formula was built. By opting for an orange-tinted base, Dior echoes the new raw materials contained in this essence, namely the presence of vanilla, star anise and nutmeg. The initial freshness of Sauvage gives way to a more pronounced sensuality. Behind its apparent simplicity, Sauvage Eau de Parfum was therefore designed down to the smallest detail.
The new oriental composition of Sauvage Eau de Parfum
In terms of composition, Sauvage Eau de Parfum is just as appealing as its predecessor, though it is nonetheless different. At first, it relies on the freshness of bergamot. This citrus is quickly warmed by the addition of a few spices. Pepper and nutmeg blend with a more anise-like accord. Lavenders from the Drôme and Vaucluse regions are also present.
