Sauvage Eau de Parfum is the 2018 version François Demachy composed for Dior around the eau de toilette’s Calabrian bergamot, warmed with a Papua New Guinean vanilla extract. The house draws inspiration from a desert at twilight; star anise, nutmeg, lavender and Sichuan pepper make up its heart.
Dior pairs the juicy, spicy freshness of Calabrian bergamot, the eau de toilette’s own, with a Papua New Guinean vanilla extract accord it calls mysterious and enveloping. The heart brings together Sichuan pepper, lavender and star anise.
The vanilla is harvested green, scalded, and processed, according to the house, with a solvent-free extraction that preserves the complexity of its aromas. Dior credits it with smoky accents that make it more virile, and also mentions a woody patchouli.
The launch notes
The notes announced in 2018 place bergamot at the top; Sichuan pepper, lavender, star anise and nutmeg at the heart; ambroxan and vanilla at the base. The bergamot, pepper, lavender and ambroxan come from the 2015 eau de toilette.
The ingredient list declares the essential oils of bergamot, lemon, patchouli, lavender, geranium and rose, and names anethole, coumarin and isoeugenol among its fragrant components.
