Fables d'Orient

L’Artisan Parfumeur was born in 1976 from the idea of Jean Laporte, who imagined a perfumery without license or model, giving his perfumers a free hand. Fables d’Orient arrives forty-five years later, in a series entrusted entirely to Christophe Raynaud.

Five fragrances launched together

The house announced in July 2021 five eaux de parfum gathered under the name L’Orient: Bois des Sables, Contes du Levant, Fables d’Orient, Légendes du Cèdre and Ode à l’Oudh. The launch price was 160 pounds in Britain, 180 euros in France.

The series is presented as a tribute to the perfume culture of the Middle East, built on raw materials the house calls native to the region: Turkish rose, saffron, cedar, incense. The collective name has become Les Merveilles, and the line has widened since.

The perfumer’s premise

Christophe Raynaud describes an oriental that celebrates amber and the precious resins of incense and myrrh, wrapped in petals of white iris and in overdosed musks. He holds sillage to be the determining element of a composition, and looks for fragrances that are remembered.

An Extrait version

The house has since launched a Fables d’Orient L’Extrait in limited edition, built on Boswellia sacra incense, amber and aldehydes. Raynaud sees in it an incense whose facets intensify against the amber, lit by white aldehydes. The juice remains distinct from the eau de parfum.
