Memoir Woman
Amouage Memoir Woman: the olfactory diary of a nocturnal heroine. Launched in 2010 by the Omani house Amouage, Memoir Woman tells the story of a rose transformed under the full moon: from luminous muse to shadowy enchantress. Perfumers Daniel Maurel and Dorothée Piot orchestrate a chypre ballet in which green absinthe opens the dance, taif rose swirls in a haze of incense and castoreum leather seals its fate. Halfway between a gothic tale and couture elegance, Memoir Woman embodies the most introspective facet of the Library collection.

Composition: the olfactory pyramid
Top: green absinthe & pink pepper
A mist of green absinthe – fresh, anise-like, almost celestial – blends with sparkling pink pepper, lemony cardamom and blood mandarin. This contrast opens the door to a theater of shadows.
Heart: smoky rose, jasmine & clove
The curtain rises on a liqueur-like taif rose crossed by a dense Oman incense. Sambac jasmine, bathed in clove and dark woods, breathes in a floral-spicy sensuality that thickens over the hours.
Base: castoreum leather, oakmoss & labdanum
The scene fades out on a velvety castoreum leather, a carpet of damp oakmoss and an amber-resinous labdanum. Animalic, smoky and honeyed facets intertwine, leaving a shadowy sillage that lasts until the next day.
Bottle: smoked crystal & onyx cabochon
A shadow-hued rainbow bottle: anthracite smoked crystal, black dome cap adorned with an onyx cabochon, Amouage logo engraved in pale gold.
Inspired by the traditional khanjar silhouette, the bottle this time features an anthracite gradient glass that darkens to opaque black. The dome cap, topped with an onyx cabochon, evokes the deep night suggested by the fragrance.
Advertising campaign
In the short film directed by Paolo Roversi, a woman dressed in black velvet wanders through a Victorian library. As she passes, the books release wisps of green incense. Trip-hop soundtrack, Black Quill. Tagline: “Write your own shadow”.
Review & verdict
Memoir Woman is a leather-incense rose for collectors of carnal juices: less sweet than Interlude Woman, smokier than Honour, darker than Epic. On warm skin, the absinthe becomes a mentholated liqueur; in cool weather, the oakmoss underscores a damp forest quality. Cathedral sillage (2 m) during the first hour, then a velvet halo that lasts more than 18 hours. Perfect with a black cashmere coat, a draped burgundy dress or a smoky suede jacket.
