Manifesto

Manifesto is the feminine eau de parfum that Anne Flipo and Loc Dong composed in 2012 for Yves Saint Laurent, launched in September with Jessica Chastain as the face of the campaign and a film by Nicolas Winding Refn. A woody floral oriental for the house: jasmine, white flowers, lily of the valley and blackcurrant, over a base of vanilla, tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood. Jeanne Doré finds it the least disappointing launch from the house in some time.

Doré (Auparfum) sees it as the least disappointing Saint Laurent launch in a long time: a sun-kissed, gourmand floral oriental, classic, with a milky sillage close to shower gel.

Auparfum: Dulux Valentine

Jeanne Doré, in September 2012, admits the embarrassment of a Manifesto advertisement flickering on her site, and still concludes: by far the least disappointing launch from Saint Laurent in some time, Chastain as a Ripolin-paint model classier than Pretty Woman, an arty spot less ridiculous than the diamonds of a photoshopped mermaid.

The fragrance, a sun-kissed, gourmand floral oriental, classic in structure, escapes being just another patchouli fragrance as she had feared: a sharp opening of blackcurrant and green mango, a creamy, milky sillage bordering on shower gel, a coumarin-tinged sandalwood recalling Allure. Not the resurrection she was hoping for, she writes, but almost the pleasant surprise of the season.
